Default Cautions to take before installing coilovers...

Alright, so I've owned my GS for around 7 months now. Never been into modding cars but got hooked since I was introduced to the VIP scene.

I'm only 19 so this is my first car, also being the first I'm gonna lower. I've heard installing coilovers is an easy swapping job, which I'm not too worried about. I just wanna know what I should look for when I'm installing the coilovers.

Searching the forum I was able to find two helpful threads (which I'll follow) by 5t341th and fenderzig respectively:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sus...-write-up.html
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sus...watch-for.html

So I'm aware of the ABS line and all that.

Anything else I should look out for? And all the tools needed?

Thanks.

Braking the ABS line is the most common expensive mistakes. And make sure to tighten those adjusting collars.

nice job finding my thread. just dont pull those abs lines too hard. its pretty simple really. best way to install is having all 4 on jackstands. makes it quick. also, start by doing the rears first. fronts are cake

also, remove the balljoint on the Front upper control arm if u have the balljoint remover tool. makes it much easier than removing one side of it

Preload the suspension before you fully torque down the shock bolts. Most people dont do this and end up ruining their shock bushings in the long run. It's also a reason why most people think their suspension is 'settling' when in fact it's their bushings screaming for their dear lives.

first off. good to see that u went straight to coils!

fronts are easy if you remove the UCA from the spindle arm thing.. also unbolting both sway bar endlinks help too to give you more room when pushing down on the hub.. having 2 ppl helps a lot as well.

rears are SUPER easy too if you remove the camber bolt (after marking it.. doesnt really matter at this point since youre lowered but yea) and then pushing down on the LCA while you pull out the shocks.

Have a friend give you a hand. Its useful to have someone kick down the rotor while trying to get the stock suspension out.

I've done, sc300, is300, is350 coilover swaps, never a 2GS

Its not required to remove the UCA right? I can just remove the sways/end links, and have my friend push all his weight on the rotor and guide the strut through the side right? I don't have a ball joint remover.

iono if its required or not but it makes it 100000X easier to remove the front shocks.. due to the additional space and what not. just gotta becareful with that ABS sensor line.

initially i tried it without unbolting the UCA but i ended up giving up and renting the tool. Free so why not? lol

Autozone/Pepboys/Kragen will rent it out to you. I believe it cost $80 or something and you have up to 48 hours before needing to return.

that is if you remove it. Great precautionary thing to do however you dont really need to remove them... least if u do you wont be messing them up for sure lol.

If you do leave it on there just be extremely caution whem moving the spindle/hub around or removing the shocks making sure u dont rest it on the sensor line.

just play around with it buy play close attention to the ABS sensor.

its easy.

squirt everything down with some pb blast a couple days before, especially if you have no air tools. Those nuts and bolts can be pretty stuborn.
