My car regularly sits for 2-3 weeks and my 2-year old Toyota battery never died on me.

I have always believed optimas are over priced and overrated. I never could understand why people get a battery like the optimas ....but dont change out their alternator for one with more amps. that would be better....then afterwards get the high end battery. I know lots of people over on the GM performance sites who are displeased with their optimas except for the looks.

It is a deep cycle battery. They lose charge when they sit. That is normal. If you car stays in a garage get a trickle charger. You cant go wrong with red or yellow tops. Duralast is crap from my experiences.

They are great batteries only ones I will buy. Helps stop the flicker of headlights if you have powerful system. Turns motor over with ease. My alternators have never had a problem charging, it is the storage unit holding the power that were always the weak link

^^^To post above Have you ever had one???? Probably not if you don't understand why people buy them.

went to auto zone with the red top they checked it and were ready to swap it out for me then they said the original bat was purchased in 07 and that it was now prorated... i had a swap reciept from 09 which means they issued a new bat in 09 for the one bought in 07.... shouldnt that bat have an additional 3 yr warranty on it? guy at autozone told me no!! i wasn't about to make a huge deal about it so i took my 71 dollar refund and got out of there.... but i def think its each battery they issue has a 3 year warranty... what do you think???

Do you understand how prorating works? Methinks not so much. They only give you the 3 year no hassle OTC exchange on the first battery. Any add'l batteries only fall under the original 3 year term and are prorated after that. In other words, they're not going to let you buy one, kill it every 2 years, and bring it in for a freebie every time. Battery companies would go out of business if they did that, mang. Think about it.

Alright so I went and bought a diehard platinum and car has been sitting for a while again.... Guess what dead batttery again I gave her a jump and she started right up.... I must have something either draining the battery or a bad battery... Any ideas? Only thing I can think of is maybe the compustar alarm is pulling power from the battery when it's not on, but enough to kill the battery? Thanks ahead of time....

Word of advice that everyone has advise you already, get a trickle charger if the car sits more than 2 weeks at a time. I have both yellow top and trickle charger. If if use my car daily, then no need. Shall my car sit more than 2-3 weeks, I hook up the trickle charger until I use the car again. Do yourself a favor and get one of the two or both.. The least expensive way is to Get the trickle charger since its cheap $40 bucks, Lookup "Battery Tender" works great and a low amp that won't harm your batt..

Link for Battery Tender -- http://batterytender.com/automotive/...-at-0-75a.html

I use it on all of my cars for years, never had a problem.. Battery tender is good garage gear..

Since, I have two cars - I'm going to do a TEST to see how long my Yellow Top can go without a charge. I've easily got 3 weeks before when hooked up. ("unhooked"; according to specs can go 2 years) I will try for 6 weeks from now (Feb 29) before cranking. Let you know in 6 weeks..

I'm more of a proponent for batteryminder as it has desulfator feature. A favorite among rv/solar power people.

http://www.batteryminders.com/batterycharger/home.php

ctek branded chargers are also seem a little more modern and up to date too.

Either way, I suggest don't go cheap on a trickle charger, otherwise you'll end up with cooked batteries.

You may also need to carefully choose if you have AGM versus standard battery
