I'm about to finally pull the trigger and go for a new GS 300.
I drive mostly city miles and crowded highways near Boston. I don't intend to do any mods.
What's the opinion of the Sport Design package for someone like me? Should I get it? Are there any detriments to it?
The only thing I really HATE about the GS300 is the lack of steering wheel audio controls. I've really gotten used to them and love em. The fact that my 4 year old Accord has them and a new much pricier car won't, that kills me. And I can't justify the GS400 price.
Has anyone found a way to get on wheel audio contols? Could a GS400 wheel be switched to the GS300? Any ideas?
Thanks!

yeah, i know what you mean on the audio control.......
if you prefer aluminum interior over wood...and will not be modding the car, get the sport design for sure if you can get a good deal

NO Mod? Thats what I said before I discover ClubLexus and realized my GS is not able to handle the twisty road like a BMW... so never say never...
Now Sport design? I'll say depend on the price of the car!... That Sport design did not do any drop on the car... VS L-Tuned.. (cover under warrenty) drop about 1"... where u be purchased the GS? Watertown?

geebee, I just got a 2002 GS300 Sports Design about 5 weeks ago and I had the same complaints. Lexus put steering wheel radio controls on the 430 like it's some kind of great bonus feature to exclude from the 300. And like you said, they've been on Accords and Acuras for years. I'd be interested to hear if the steering wheel radio controls can be installed on the GS300. I'm not even sure if it is a separate unit attached to the steering wheel.
As far as the Sports Design goes, I love mine. I especially love the black walnut wood trim over the regular burlwood. But I've been having trouble finding an aftermarket wood kit that matches it to fill in the rest of the dash.
One more thing. I got an excellent price from carsdirect.com for mine. Only about a thousand over invoice which saved me $5500 off sticker price. With carsdirect.com they tell you price in your area for the car with the options and then you have the option of buying/leasing through them or having them refer you to a dealer. The price you see on the site is the price that the dealer will have to give you and to get the price, you only have to give your zip code.
