Default Radio says "Metal"

Google and a forum search hasn't turned up anything for me. My 99 GS400 radio says "Metal" on the top left of the screen. I assume this is some type of audio preference and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to switch it. I've pressed every button and button combination I can think of. This is displayed when I have a tape adaptor in for my ipod. I don't believe it shows when I have the radio on, but can't remember right now. Now that I'm finally looking for an answer I was surprised I couldn't find any posts about it =\

Please help me with this silly problem!

Straight from the manual,

"If a metal or chrome equivalent cassette tape is put in the cassette player, the player will automatically adapt to it and 'METAL' appears on the display."

Lol, unfortunately I am, too. As far as I know it is the only option if you have a Nak Head Unit.

I use the cassette adapter also. I even found some old tapes from high school in a box a while back and rocked those.

Look at the holes on top of the cassette, the different combination of them ID'd it at Metal, CrO2, FeCR or Normal.

You can put Scotch tape of the inner holes and it will change. Metal has a different bias and will change the sound some. You might prefer it on Normal.
