Default Potentially stupid audio question...

Okay, so please bear with me. Now, I have often heard that factory audio can't typically hold a candle to aftermarket setups.

My (potentially stupid) question is: Is it worth my money to upgrade the speakers/tweeters of a 2001 Lexus GS with a new setup with an amp?

I already have a nice aftermarket
headunit/subwoofer/amp setup, which is great, but I am wondering if I will notice a significant difference with aftermarket speakers as well, compared to the factory ones.

Thanks as always guys!
Dan

I would think so since the stock speakers are made of paper and have a limited output. Upgrading the speakers in the doors would make a difference imo.

The OEM speakers are made out of paper... A few hard punches from the bass and you will start to hear it rattle. Definitely upgrade the speakers.

I recently purchase a amp/sub and since you guys recommend to upgrade speakers which would you recommend? I am no where a audiophile, and my sub will hit hard enough already. Just looking for some decently priced with decent quality.

So what would you recommend me and the OP?

For sure it's a good idea! Upgrade the speakers cap them! And get a separate amp to power the speakers in the car👍 you won't regret it ❕😜

If you are going to upgrade the speakers in your car, make sure to make or buy adapters to fit 6" speakers instead of the factory 4".

i found the factory amp suck big time i replace just the head-unit with sub and amp and the sound comes out cleaner and fuller ...but like gs4 said a big bass hit and you'll hear them rattle i just back out the bass til it was minimize
and just play with the sub crossover til it sound like there coming from the front...

to answer your question any 6" component set is worth the investment. Just make sure it is some kind of name brand, ie pioneer, kenwood, jbl, cerwin vega...ect. 100.00-250.00

if you want to go up a level, then look into jl audio, memphis, hertz, focal, diamond audio 150.00-500.00 range.

on the front speakers do not skimp. my system sounds great. i have focal in the doors in the front, a dd sub in the trunk and factory speakers in the rear, i turn to crossover in the head unit to high pass 120hz for the rear, 80hz for the front, and low pass for the sub 120hz. all going through a 100watt x 4 orion amp. works great, hits hard. rear speakers are on deck power.

here take your pick

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n_...nid=1293690011

here is a pretty good set to do front and rear for 155.00

http://www.amazon.com/Package-Sps-61...183067&sr=1-10

here is high end set, the ones i have...you wont be sorry about these they are worth the money

http://www.amazon.com/Focal-Access-6...183180&sr=1-17

You have stock stereo or Nak/ML?

I have the stock Nak and love it, yeah, you can't crank it over kill, but I don't much and like to keep my hearing. I run sound reinforcement at my church and it is much louder (yeah, blown those speakers once already) but the Nak is a sweet stereo.

Paper is lighter than the plastics they make cones out of, so it is very light and transient responses are better, but the can't take the abuse if you push them beyond the limits of the bellows. They will start to tear and they will degrade over time.

Not sure which way I will go if I blow the stock Nak speakers up, but for now they are sounding good and super clear. For me, loud isn't the name of the game, clear and pure is. I don't get beyond 50% volume much, but that is quite loud in my car. My kids hate it when I turn it up.... (the irony, my parents never turned it up and my generation cranked it till they were deaf, my kids won't turn it up at all)
