Fresh paint decreases value because its not OEM finish and don't know what type of materials were used, or the REAL reason why it was repainted. Just because Carfax says its clean doesn't mean its never been in an accident. Anyone can get in a wreck and take it to their homeboy down the street to fix and not notify their insurance.. New engine decreases value even though a dealer did the install....
In your case, we know why you repainted it...but other people you just never know how shady they can be.

Yeah that's why I'm never fixing up and oldschool custom again waste of money on paint interior engine etc. I'm sticking to the new stuff foregin Lexus or Benz only I wasted so much of my money and will never make it back I'm lucky if I get half

Thanks For the advice guys. It's taking me a while to respond to this thread because I have been uninstalling parts that I sold, so haven't been on cl that much.
As far as the paint goes, I'm not going with any crap paint or materials. I guess it will be a good idea to keep the receipts from all of the paint and materials used. After it's painted I will provide all receipts and before and after pics to show why it was painted. Hopefully that will help with the sale.
Either way I am in no rush to sell the car and will just to continue to use it as my daily driver until it sells for a decent price.
I will post car in classifieds and a few other places and report back to this thread whenever it sells.
But feel free to keep the comments coming in the mean time.

As one who buys and sells cars I would avoid a car with a motor swap. Also any car that has been repainted throws red flags. Has it been wreck and that is the reason for a repaint... it is just a matter of measuring the thickness of the paint. Car fax is a false sense of security. Just because it says there are zero wrecks does not mean that is true. It just means insurance did not handle the damage and it came out of pocket.
If I were you I would say nothing of a new paint job unless asked nor the motor. You have a better chance of selling it as a well taken care of GS. Locally a 2nd gen GS sells for 11k-12k tops!
Good luck

Why wouldn't he say anything if hes asking that Much? He needs to Justify the Asking Price to the Buyer..
BTW..Encouraging Don't Ask Don't tell, is a SHADY business practice. Thanks for showing Me which members to stay away from.

Whoever sees it in person will understand the condition it is in, and will see that all of the lines match up perfectly. If they make the right offer they will most likely get the car.
We'll see.

Last night, I just bought silver/black 2001 GS430, 78k, fully loaded, one owner, and everything seemed straight... I did a lot of research and I used to be in car business, for almost 10 years... I don't think I'm a clueless buyer... but I did fork out 12.7K for that car. I wanted it, and that's what I was willing to pay for that car.
Would I have paid 12.7k for yours? Probably not... but maybe the new engine, etc is a 'plus' to someone, rather than 'minus'.
Good luck!
