Default What do you think my car is worth?

What do you guys think my car is worth?

it is a 2002 GS430, I am the second owner and purchased this car certified from a Lexus dealership.
The body has less than 80k miles I'll check exactly tomorrow but i think I am somewhere around 77-78k but not sure maybe a little less maybe a little more but less than 80k.
The engine is from a 2005 gs430 and was installed at a Lexus dealership, (all documents and receipts to show this, cost over 10k) engine has about 33k miles. Everything has been replaced, engine mounts, tranny mounts, new brakes, belts, tie rods. I actually have all of the daizen bushings but car does not make a squeek, rattle or vibration at any speed. So haven't installed them yet. Everything works as it should. Fully loaded mark levinson navi, oem chrome wheels.
Also I will have the car repainted oem 202 black due to some a-hole keying my car and one of the fenders being slightly damaged from going up a driveway when low. So car will have fresh paint and absolutely no scratches, dents or dings.

Any idea what I should ask for this? oops forgot to mention, Black on black

It was raining pretty heavily out here in LA one day and drove through an intersection (wasn't even that deep), but somehow water happened to splash right into the intake (oem intake) and bam, hydrolocked. Insurance paid for engine and labor. Car runs perfect and now has super low miles!

it all really dpends on how much someone wants the car, but sounds really nice, i want a black on black , 12-14k sounds about right for that car.

Thanks. Hopefully it goes for 14k instead of 12k

You should buy it, fresh paint, low miles

Really? They seem to sell for more than that out here in Los Angeles.
The 2 cheapest 2002 gs430's I could find from individual seller were 9k and 10500 and thats with 130k and 150k miles. Everything else seems to be between 12-16k. Not that I think i would get 16k but even 12 seems feasible with the prices I'm seeing.
No accidents, fairly low mileage, fresh paint, all maintenance done, I don't see how that would only get 7-8k. But hey, I guess I won;t really know until I try and sell it.

ok here is a prime example
2001 gs430 sold on EBAY yesterday for 7450. It is blue on beige with 2 reported accidents and 4 owners and 137,000miles, scratches on bumpers etc etc
So you're saying I would only get at most 1500 more for my car which is one year newer half the miles on the chassis 1/4 of the miles on the engine (2005 model engine) black on black and with no dings or scratches anywhere?
And cars on ebay always sell for cheaper than they do locally.

here in NY they are going for around that much. The modded ones are getting sold for more on the forums.

Truth is, the book/current value of the car is what most educated car buyers will pay. The person who wants it will pay what ever you are asking so if time is no problem just hold out for the right buyer.

At the end of the day all the hard work, sweat, tears, and engine swaps will not increase the current value.

You can always start high and see who bites and lower it accordingly if its been in the market for a while.

this comes down to Age old question.. Are cars an Investment? answer is NO 99% of the time

i agree with what you are saying to a certain extent. Not sure if you saw my link to ebay in the last post I made, i edited it and added it possibly while you were already typing your reply. Either way I believe the engine swap in this case will and does increase the value. This was not a swap done as a mod or to make the car faster, but instead just to replace the previous engine, and that is with a newer engine with less than half of the miles of the original one. That means no timing belt needed anytime soon and many parts were installed new when this engine was professionally installed by a lexus dealership. (not done in someones garage). i don;t see how that would';t increase the value.
As far as an investment, trust me I know that isn't so. I paid 38k for my car back in the beginning of 05 (with everything, financing, certifed at a lexus dealership) and spent over 30k in mods on it, so I never expected it to be an investment. I just don't see it being worth 7-8k, in fact I don;t see it worth under 10k under any cicrcumstances. Once again check out that ebay link I posted in my last link.

these are the kbb quotes, and this is with 77k miles, this is without considering that the engine has less than half of that.

But still i always like to get people's opinions. I don't always agree with the kbb prices.

I also inputted the information from the 2001 gs430 that recently sold on ebay just to see how the actual selling price compared with the kbb price. here are the results

actual selling price
7450 with 33 bids

kbb private party value
Excellent
$9,725
Very Good
$9,325
Good
$9,025
Verify Condition
Fair
$7,875

assuming the car is in very good condition which who knows since it has been in 2 accidents,
the actual selling price is still within 2k of the kbb price. not too bad. That would put my car at around 13k. Not bad and pretty much dead on with what 1sWT2gs said.

i think you will get top dollar for the car. but speaking out of past experience with engine swaps, they usually dont add anything (sometimes & in my case hurt it)

i was looking for a Ford Lightning a while back. everything with low miles was up in the $13k-$17k price range. i ended up getting one off of someone that had a brand new Ford factory installed engine with zero mile on it. when i had actually purchased the truck, it only had 18,000 miles on the new engine (still had the factory warranty through Ford & i had all documentation provided). but the seller couldnt even get $10k for the truck. he said at the time his best offer was $7k. i ended up trading my 01 Jeep Wrangler to get it & i was only asking $8k.

and btw, don't flame my car.....i'm the winning bidder on that auction. im going to get it today, lol. and yes, i've been searching for a while. that was one of the lower mileage cars around here for the price. (i'm still driving to another state to get it). there are local cars here in MD with over 150-160k miles that people are asking over $7000 (and some of those are GS300's) there is one car selling locally here 02 GS300 187k miles, does have aftermarket tv in dash & headrests & the guy is asking $8000 firm, lol.

thanks for the advice, from everyone who responded actually.
I wasn't trying to flame on your car, in fact I think 7500 for an 01 gs430 is a good deal. I know it would be a good deal out here in LA. Also please let us or me know what condition the car is when you receive it. I've heard mixed reviews about people purchasing their cars on ebay.
I was just using your car as an example because it was the only 2001-2002 gs430 that came up as recently sold on ebay, plus it had a lot of bids which tells me that there was interest for the car.
Congrats on your new gs. It is an awesome car.

As long the car holds a Clean Title and have documents on the engine swap work and maybe a warranty... I think you can sell it close to KBB price... Just be honest and make sure you post everything on your ad so people can understand what happened. Ebxgsxr is right, the new lower mileage engine doesn't add value to the car.
