I only use manual when I'm just bored or on the long stretch of road with ample amount of time to see the light is going to turn red at which time down shift to slow down to time it. I guess it wears down the brake pads less by doing this but the biggest adv. is accerating quickly as the light turns green again at which time....well you know the rest

Global explained it pretty well. Manual let you control shifts from 2 through 5. But if you get carried away the computer takes over. I did notice, when my car is cold i cant shift down to 2. It stays in 3 and beeps if i press down to go to 2. A few minutes later, its fine. Its really neat option and 2 pulls really well and makes the exhuast sound even better.
