GS400 with 3.92 or 4.27?
I have a GS400 and this will be my first performance mod of many, but I'm not sure which gearing I want to go with. Those of you who have had both 3.92 and 4.27 which one do you prefer and what if any issues/problems did you have?
I'm asking since I found a SC300 pumpkin and SC400 for $97 each which is a direct bolt on for the GS400. Just want to get a little more info before I decide which one to get.
Thanks

Speak to slowdiver. I believe he has had both setups. Iirc he has the 4.27's in there now. Fyi, I have 3.76's from the Supra TT and my car is now mechanically limited at a top speed of 130mph. I am also a tad over 3000rpms at 80mph. Keep this in mind as 4.27's will probably limit your top speed to 110mph, at 80mph you will be around 4000rpms and eating a lot of gas. But, the acceleration willbe great. IMHO the 3.76 or 3.92 is a happy medium. The 4.27's start to really effect drivability. Good luck!

I'm not too concerned with top end speed so that part doesn't concern me much. Just trying to see if the car will be harder to drive with the 4.27 compared to the 3.92.
FYI I currently have a staggered set up to with 20X8.5 fronts and 20x10 rears.

I have the 3.92s with the TRD LSD. If you want to retain some kind of highway driving go with the 3.92s or the 3.76s. With the 3.92s at 80 mph I'm at 3k rpms. I've never tried the 4.27s but I'm sure the Rome are a bit higher and would kill highway gas mileage. But if you don't care about any of that and don't drive on the highway much. Give the 4.27s a try.

Uhhhh, just an fyi, the supra lsd comes with the 3.76 gears. So, what would you do? Buy the supra tt lsd rear then swap out the 3.76 gears with the 3.92 gears. That small jump in gears won't make a big difference. And this route would be expensive!!! I say go with the supra tt lsd and be done with it.

So guys I decided to go with the 4.27 gears and got a SC300 pumpkin. Even better I came across a MK4 TT Auto LSD unit only for dirt cheap! I have placed the order for new side bearings and seals for the differential since its best to replace those with new parts. I can't wait to get this combo together! What a great Xmas this has turned out to be!
