So the water pump bolts are accessible with out tearing the engine apart. I need to do the timing belt but I want to save money by doing the Water pump myself.
Would these be the correct steps:
1.Disconnect the serpentine belt
2.Loosen bolts on the water pump.
3.Remove the water pump
4.install new water pump
5.reinstall serpentine belt if good

Nevermind....I thought that you wrote Chico! lol
I'm in Bay ARea! hehehe
BTW....the only way you can save money on this service is if you do it yourself....Don't try to save money buy not replacing timing belt and just water pump because it's not worth it! OEM timing belt alone is only about $35!!!

You need to remove the timing belt to access the waterpump. I'm going to post some vids below on how to do this. This is for a 2JZGTE, but it's almost the same for a 2JZGE motor. This is a multi-part series, so simply watch each part after this vid in youtube. This is an excellent instructional video on how to handle the work yourself.

I watched the video but it doesn't say anything about the waterpump. From what I have seen the timing belt only goes round the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft pulleys. The accessory belt on the other hand goes round the alternator, waterpump and powersteering. So i am not convinced the t-belt needs to be removed b/4 removing the waterpump.

Having done this personally, you have to take the Tbelt off first. Although the belt doesn't directly drive the pump, it blocks the pump from being able to be pulled out with the belt in the way. In addition, coolant will spew out and get all over the crank pulley and Tbelt anyhow so you'd want to avoid that.
Attached is straight from the repair manual. Look at step 3 - Remove Timing Belt.
