Default Strange problem, Insight needed

So I was changing my interior bulbs to leds when I ran into a strange problem that I cannot find the answer to.

This happens with the drivers side rear door. I open the door and the coat hanger light and door light are on but extremely dim. These are fresh LEDS but I figured the leds could be faulty so i swap them, same thing. I press the coat hanger button to turn it on and boom that light is bright as hell but the door light is still dim. I open the passenger side and both are bright. Does anyone know what is causing this or what the issue may be?

Upon installing these I noticed that neither of these lights even came on when i opened the door! mind you this is a 1998 gs400 with 54k miles on it. Help?!?!

Try and take a small flat blade screwdriver and move the contacts closer to each other then put the led in.

Will do but i dont think that will do to much since when you push the button the coat hanger light is perfectly fine. Thanks for the tip

I moved them a bit closer and they actually wouldnt turn on, I then spread them apart a bit further and they are still dim. Not sure wtf is going on but It must be something with the car, rather the bulbs since I swapped bulbs with ones that work.

Interesting you say that because I dont believe it does. This door has always seemed to be giving me a problem, Ill come out to it to see its slightly open. Last night I was in the back seat with both rear doors open, i shut the passenger side door and the dome light shut off, when it should be on.

I think your on to something, Ill check at lunch time!

Same thing happened to me. I never fixed it since it doesn't bother me.

Yeah OP, I had a similar if not identical problem to Thomas. Check the following link to see if you problem sounds like mine as well. It's funny because my rear, driver-side puddle light is the same one I had problems with too. But, like Thomas, it doesn't really bother me all that much so I never bothered fixing it.

Yes the dor adjar light does not come on when I open the door, neither does the dome light. Has to be the door module, Ill try and find a cheap used one and replace it. Thanks guys!

it doesnt HAVE to be the door ecu (which is what i assume you mean by the module), it could easily be the door switch also

If you have a voltmeter you can check the current passing through to those outlets. If you have a poor current running to the light outlets then you can say with confidence that it's the switch. If you don't have a voltmeter I would just bring it to someone who is good with car electronics and they can probably narrow this down for you.
