reprogramming key from another car

just wondering if this is possible. basically, i found a key from my wife's old ES330. the internals of the key looks the same. i bought a empty key blank off ebay & was just going to have the dealer cut the key. that way i could take my "internals" from my cracked key & install it in the new key.
but since i have an extra key shell & the remote internals from the key i found from my wife's old car, is it possible to reprogram the old internals to work with my car? the dealer is telling me no since those "internals" were assigned to her car, it wouldn't work with mine.
im just not sure if they are being honest or just telling me this, so i would have to buy another key from them. if anyone can shed some light/input on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Are the part numbers the same between the ES and GS remote?
If yes, then I don't see why not
I bought a key from a junkyard a few months ago (01 GS3) ... and then just recently reprogrammed it to my GS (03 GS3). The programming took on the first try (after I replaced my door lock actuators)
Either way, it's worth a shot. Doesn't take a long time to program it
