It's ALIVE!!!
Too funny, I didn't even notice until I came to the end of reading this whole thread before I realized the last post before today, on page 3, was from 2001...LOL!
I agree 100%, back in the early 90's, when I had a 30-35 mile daily commute I hit 100 or more everyday straight for over a month. Not racing, just cruising to where I was going. People to see, places to be, things to do. Now I probably hit 100 or more maybe a few times a month, don't do much highway driving as I used to, so the opportunity doesn't present itself as much.
In my 02 GS 430 with some mods I've done right around 140 (briefly glanced at the speedometer but was more inclined to watch the road at that speed, things happen very quickly and you need to be alert).

140 and 145.....
I drive to So Cali alot and I like to drive at night , no traffic. I did 145mph on my friends modded 3 series BMW and 140 on a stock ES 300 dropped on eibach springs. I would NEVER drive this fast on a car with stock suspensions. It took me 4 hrs from the start of Interstate 5 from 580 to Magic mountain...... Aaaaah the good ol days.

I had my old super charged GS400 slightly over 140 a few times.......I had my old single turbo Supra over 160 a few times........and I have had my ZX-10R over 160 once (and once was enough for me on the bike), although it has seen over 140 quite a few times. Im more concerned about passing a cop at those speeds than I am of the actual speed itself. That would be about the time the old "stop or run" question would hit my head......on the bike I would know the answer!

The fastest I've gone in the GS is around 110 or so. I agree with previous posters that it's easy to get up over 100 while passing before you even realize it.
I once topped out my 87 Mustang GT on some back roads in Champaign, Illinois. When I think back on it, it was pretty stupid of me. The speedo only went up to 85. The top speed on the car was supposedly 149. I had the accelerator pinned in 5th gear at 4200 rpm and the car wouldn't go any faster. I dropped it back into 4th, took it past the redline (5800 as I recall), shifted back into 5th and I was running at 4400 rpm. Does anyone know how to calculate how fast that is? I guess you would need to know the gearing on the stock 302 cc engine (which, by the way, does not and never has translated to 5.0 liters -- it's more like 4.9, but my guess is that they rounded up because 4.9 would have looked silly tacked onto the side of the car).

I hit 135 once.
There was a minivan (from Ontario) that kept passing me at 85, then slowing down once he moved back in front of me. Even if I accelerated to 95, he stayed behind me. After being passed and passing him six times or so, I decided to leave him behind me.
I zoomed away, didn't even floor it, until I couldn't see him anymore. Looking down, I saw the speedometer at 135 and freaked out a little, quickly slowing to 85 again. 135 is like never-drive-again-in-Pennsylvania fast.
What surprised me most was that the car still felt really solid. Yay L-Tuned S/S, I guess.
edit: and I never did see that canuck bastard again.

I think I did 10km per liter that trip (2 tanks full one day of driving).

So did you see the bugger from your rear mirror again once you were cruising at 85?
