Bought 2000 GS400, only came with Valet key, Reflash possible?
I'm confused because different people are telling me different things. The Lexus dealership is saying that the computer needs to be replaced, and they will give me 2 master keys. Total $650. I called lots of local locksmiths and was given a name of someone. I gave him a call and he said he can reflash the computer and program 2 master keys for $350. He works out of a truck and said he could meet me at a Supermarket parking lot and it would take him about 30 minutes to cut the keys and program them. I'm very skeptical since i was told this couldn't be done but from talking to him on the phone he was very confident and said that he's done it to plenty of other Lexus's. What are your opinions on what i should do? Thanks

my wife's 2005 LS430 also only came with the valet key. i bought 2 keys off ebay & then they were able to program them. but since i had a valet key, they said the had to reflash & reprogram everything to work. they charged me $250 for the complete reprogram, then $70 a key to program.
so i would be a little leery on what the dealer is telling you. check with that mobile guy if he can guarantee his work.

There is a multiplex immobilizer ecu in the cabin that is to be re-flashed the toyota flash tool cost $1000's for him to purchase but it the same tool used by toyota/lexus dealerships, I would use the locksmith and save the $300. It's not some huge fancy machine that has to be housed in a shop, it's a handheld programmer and can be done anywhere. Locksmiths have key cutters inside their vans so no reason to be skeptical. For some reason Lexus like to sell new ecu's and a pair of keys, I'm not sure if they are just trying to keep up the image that their cars are hard to steal or have keys made for, but there no reason to replace the cabin ecu.
