Default Help with P1351 light

Trying to fix a 98 GS400 with a P1351 light that has been on since another person did the timing belt and cam seals. I have front of motor torn down to the timing belt and the timing marks all line up like they are supposed to. It looks like the four star bolts on passenger cam gear have been tampered with but are in the center of the adjustment range. Any help would be much appreciated as i dont have alot of experience with this motor.

It was in another state so that is not possible. I have done alot of research and am aware of the code but i am not clear on what it takes to fix it or diagnose it. I am very mechanically inclined so I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

I removed the oil control valve and cleaned it and put twelve volts to it and it cycled. Is that all I am checking?

well, I drove the car for a while and the code came back. I erased it and drove some more and it came back, erased it and drove a little more. I am wondering if there is a good way to test the ocv to make sure that is the problem before I buy a new one. I applied 12 volts to the ocv while it was out of the car and it cycled, but is there a more in depth way to test it.

I ordered a new oil control valve (ocv) and replaced it tonight. I drove car a few miles and the code P1351 came back. I am in need of some help if anyone can shed some light on this subject.

P1351 - Deviation in crankshaft position sensor signal and VVT sensor bank 2 signal (2 trip detection logic).

Trouble Area - Mechanical system malfunction (Skipping teeth of timing belt, or belt is stretched. Lastly is bad ECM.

Most likely the vvt-i cam gear is damaged! If the four bolts were removed the cam gear lost it's timing/tension.

are you able to fix the cam gear or do you just have to replace it?

The belt is fairly new and all the timing marks were lined up when I took it apart the other day.

In that case, the cam gear for bank 2 is defective or could be loose and slipping; as you stated prior somebody had tampered with it. Maybe it's time for a new one.

is there any way to test the cam gear before I replace it. I do not like throwing parts at a problem without proper diagnoses.
