btw..if memo severs me correctly..go to your eye doc and see if he/she would write a note for you which you could take it to DMV for front window tinted approval due to medical reason

It's no specific medical condition. I think you just have to have a condition where you need to protect your eyes or skin from sunlight. By the way, some states allow tint for medical reasons, some don't. That link to the tint laws that I posted on the first page of this thread has that information in the last column. Luckily for you XenonES3, Illinois is one of that states that allows tint for medical reasons. I'm unlucky, NY doesn't.

Here is a picture of my car with the bronze metallic tint. As with most tint jobs, mine came with a lifetime warranty and cost around $170.

As a luxury car dealership who they would recommend for a quality tint job near you. I find the place I went to through the porsche dealership here. Plus, many places will give you a discount if you tell them you were sent by a dealership.

Actually Sam, NY does allow tint for medical conditions. You have to pick up form MV-80W at the DMV. I have the Dr's note, just haven't picked up the form. I guess I'll do it once I get yanked over for illegal tint. I am at 20% all around minus front windshield. Here's the NY DMV link on the info. Enjoy

Oh yeah, you're right. My mistake, I read the wrong column on the tint law chart. It's time to get that form and have a doctor fill it out for me.

If this is true, your the first person I've ever seen with metal tint and good gps reception. You do know that the nav antena is not in the rear glass. It's in the rear package tray.

Alexus,

I recall that you don't have navigation in your car so how do you know it isn't blocked? A quick search confirmed what I remembered, unless you added aftermarket navi recently -->Link to Navigation Survey Post

Not trying to flame you on this, but we need to make sure that others are not mislead into believing metallic limo tint won't impact their factory navigation systems...

Are you guys serious about this 'Dr.'s note' deal? What do you tell your doctor? I'm interested.....

Just let the cop feel like he/she is boss, 'just act dumb' ...lol

The first time I got pulled, I made the dumb mistake of saying I've seen tint on many other cars, and asked the cop about the justification of not being able to tint front windows....the cop got pretty mad and refused to answer why tinting the fronts is illegal. On top of that, he saw my corners were clear so he asked me to flash my turn signals (he was looking for xenon or blue bulbs). Next, he walked around the car and saw I had smoked license plate covers. In the end; I HAD 3 TICKETS!!!!!!!!

The second time I got pulled, I learned from experience. I immediately put the front windows down, tried to be as courteous as possible and apoligized to the cop saying I didn't understand why tinted fronts are illegal and i will get rid of them as ASAP. all goood....no tickets...no problems.
I can top that.
This is like way back in 1986 on Valantines Day,
Girlfriend on the passenger side. Going into SF for a nice romantic dinner.

I get pulled over by CHP for No Seatbelt.
He writes me up for.
1. No Seatbelt.
2. Tinted Front Windows
3. No Front Plate
4. No Driver Lic. - Left it at home
5. No Proof of Ins. - Don't know where this went. I did have Ins.

Needless to say I was bumed.

Girlfriend made it up to me though

I have never tinted the fronts again.

In SF you will mostly never get pulled over.

CHP will pull your *** over for it though.

No, your screwed everywhere, San Francisco Cops are the best, most easy going anywhere. As long as you are nice and respectful.

I would say Marin cops are the worst. They will pull you over just because they are bored.

“I’m sorry sir you were going 31MPH in a 30 Zone”

My friend caught a ticket for watching a movie in his GS going south on 280 just a few weeks ago. I’m not sure what that violation is even called.

Anybody know.

What do they write on a ticket for watching porno while driving?

Vehicle Code 2341d2 Excessive use of filth while commuting.
