Car components' tolerances wrt suspension mods
Hi guys,
I've had my GS since 98. I have not had any problems with it until this year. This coincides with my suspension upgrades. I started with L-Tuned shocks/springs and 18" wheels. I've recently added the TRD sways. Up next are the TRD front LCB and Tom's rear LCB.
With the addition of the sways, the ride did get harsher (nothing I can't handle). With it, the car has developed the moonroof rattle and I've started to have problems with my CD changer.
With the rattle, I've noticed that the inner cover is getting shaken loose and is not closed all the way. If I reach up and just manually close the cover tight, the rattle goes away.
As for the CD, someone in the Electronics forum deduced that my laser might have gotten knocked around, have gotten misaligned from spec. and have problems focusing. Without going to more details, this is exactly what it feels like the CD changer is doing.
My question to you guys is that after you've added suspension mods, have you noticed little things going "wrong"? If Lexus built this car with certain tolerances and we go and change the parameters of the ride, is it expected to have these problems show up?
I am definitely not going back to stock. I just wanted to see what may have happened with your rides.

WRT the moonroof inner cover, before I did my upgrades, it always slipped back a little. Usually from launching the car hard from a dead standstill I think. As for the CD, I have had no problems with mine, but I will start listening to my CDs again. Overall though, I have not noticed any little "things" gone wrong on my car. FYI, mods I have are Tein HA, TRD Sways, LCD & STB. Riding on stock 17's still

Neo,
I had all the same problems [changer skipped a bit less] when the car was stock. The mods have not helped the rattles, but now I at least have an excuse. One of these days I'm gonna follow RMMGS4's lead and strip the puppy down and re-assemble it right. Tempted to get a nice, loud exhaust to cover up all the shakes and rattles.
