Default Electrical People, Need Your Help

I am trying to hook the fog lights up using the stock switch. The stock switch won't hold the current of my PIAA 510s, so I was thinking about using a 4 prong relay to connect them. Can this be done. Below is what I was thinking about doing. Do I need to use a 5 prong Relay Switch and if so, how do I hook that up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

so you won't have the stock fog light anymore?
in anycase, there're already a relay on your stock fog light output, thus, you can use your stock switch for any fog light you want. no need for an extra relay.

The body shop tried to do that and they blew the fuse. Do I need to up the fuse to something higher than a 15A. Or did they just hook it up wrong? Oh yeah I am planning on using PIA510 Fog lights. I think the fuse that came with them said 30A on it.

Add the wattage (left + right) of the Stock Fogs and compare with the added wattage of the new lamps/bulbs. If the numbers are close, then you need not make any change.

Tip#1: Remove both new fog bulbs. Lights on (low beam) + fog switch on. See if the fuse pops. (This would eliminate if the wires have been shorted).

Tip#2: Try installing only ONE new bulb (I am assuming new bulb wattage is equal or less than total (L+R) wattage of stock.

Tip#3: If you get tired of fuses poping on you as you debug, rig up a 12v 10 watt bulp to jump the popped fuse. If there is a short down stream the bulb will glow at its brightest. Once you fix the short, the bulb would glow at less intensity and your fogs will come on at less intensity.

The math is simple:

Watts = Volts * Current.
{current depends upon the electrical load, and a fuse pops if the Current goes beyond its limit .. protecting switch, wire(s) and battery. }

Voltage is 12 to 13.5volts.

The 15 amp fuse should be able to support 180-202Watts.
Assuming new bulbs are the only load on the fog light fuse, you can go upto 50Watts each without popping the fuse.

Salim

ps: What you derw was/is correct ... Just make sure the realy contacts can support the current requirements .
