Post Shaky steering wheel follow up and tire recommendations

I took my '99 GS300 to my mechanic who, after test driving and inspecting the car, found that one of the tires was unevenly worn along the inner seam. Even after balancing the tires, the steering wheel still noticeably vibrated. My tires are almost 5 years old, so time to replace them.

Any good recommendations where to buy/install new tires in the Northern, VA/DC metro area and which ones perform best on a GS?

So far recommended to my by mechanics: Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S and Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring.

Thanks

Default Recommended tires...

Thanks Sam, I'll check the DWs. I noticed in the product description that is says "...not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice." I live in the DC Metro area so these tires may not be good for my locale, but I'll check out the website you sent. Thanks again

It is a summer tire but I did not think it got that cold in dc. Maybe buy some cheap rims and winter tires for the snow and ice and use these in the better weather

Mechanics dont know anything about tires. They think they do, but they dont. Trust me. Go with Michelins. Dont go with Uniroyals. Dont be drawn by the stupid low prices on tire rack. Most of their stuff is discontinued. For unbeatable ride quality and performance, go with the Michelin Primacy MXV4. The price is a little steap but you get what you pay for. They must be "V" rated for the GS.

I have primacy on my avalon. Not he V rated one. And they are good also but the continental has many, many good reviews and it does not cost an arm and a leg. Search for yourself.

looks like they do not even have the primacy in 16" size you would have to find some 17" rims

I was wrong they do have them in 16" but they are H rated tires not V rated

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/tir...il.do?pc=34520

apparently you can also get them in V rated at discount tire

Why do they need to be V rated? Z rated is better as far as speed

Q Up to 100mph
R Up to 106mph
S Up to 112mph
T Up to 118mph
U Up to 124mph
H Up to 130mph
V Up to 149mph
W Up to 168mph
Y Up to 186mph
Z 149mph and over

and you only need the high rating if you are going to go to those high speeds

Take a look at the DWS then. This is the all-season version. The S is for snow.
