Default Solved my moonroof noise

The noise I was getting from my GS400's moonroof was only there when it was CLOSED, kind of a shuffling/squeaking/ rubbing sound ( not really a rattle per se), and I traced it to the rubber gasket rubbing up on the metal roof cutout that it fits into. I could simply push up on the glass from the inside of the car and hear it, so...I tried a rubber protectant...Nada. Didn't make a diff. then...

I have an inground pool that has a filter cannister with large rubber O rings, I have a special silicone grease (clear in color) made for these O rings. I applied a thin bead to the metal edge that the rubber moonroof gasket fits against when closed( you could ostensibly apply it to the rubber gasket too ). NOISE GONE! It's engineered for wet applications and dosen't come off to easily, so it should hold up through some rain. I'll let you know how long it lasts. It says it won't hurt painted surfaces.

If anyone else is getting this noise, you might want to go to your local pool supplier and get some of this stuff. One tube would last 10 years even if you applied it monthly. Hope this helps somebody having similar noises, Cheers all. Dan H

Dan,

I'll bet this stuff is similar to what the Lexus dealer has used on mine when I've complained about the sunroof rattle (three times, never permanently fixed). Their solution has always been 'lubricate gasket' which works... for about two weeks. Will be very interested in how long yours stays silent!

That is the $60,000 question Dave. This stuff has a high teflon content according to the back of the tube, and if how difficult it is to get off your hands is any indicator, it should hang in there for a while. I wish I could tell you the product name, but the printing on the front of the tube is gone (I kept it outdoors) but the back says "made by Alladin". If that helps any. Laters, Dan H

Default Got the name...

I had to go to get my pool water tested today, and I checked out the product. It's called "Magic Lube" By Alladin and it's a "waterproof lubricant" for rubber O rings etc. $7

With a name like "Magic Lube" you might want to keep it away from the ...err... bedroom though. LOL , You definitely wouldn't want the wife or G/F getting it confused with anything else, because it really is tough to get off your hands without some GoJo or similar hand cleaner...Maybe if it's a girl you don't like...hehe.

Mine has continued to stay quiet, and since that stuff is waterproof, rain won't affect it. Cheers. Dan H
