The idea of 429miles on a full tank isn't far-fetched at all. Even assuming he left 1 gallon in the tank, that would still round to just shy of 23mpg. When I used to work further away, I was going bout 85% highway, 15% city. I was averaging between 21-22mpg. On a straight trip to just south of ATL, 70mph on the highway with CC on, I was getting about 26mpg.

The part that stands out as BS is the 60% highway nonsense. That is an improper reading. Clear the trip meter. Fill up on full. Next time you go to fill up, jot down your trip miles and divide that by the number of gallons you fill up. That will give you a very close to accurate MPG.

And dont rely on ur Navi.....to find out real MPG...Make a note of ur miles at the time of fill up( fill to one click) then on the next fill up do the same (one click) get a slip and you will see how many gallons you used....make a note of the miles you have at the fill up.

Subtract current miles from last fill up= total miles traveled then divide by the amt of gallons you just filled and boom AVG MPG

A 19.8-gallon tank is standard in the 1999 GS400. The GS400 gets 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

so 22mpg 19 gal is 418 so it is feasable, but **** realistically something must be wrong with my car i get like less than 300miles to the tank

Default Nav. system info screen.

The MPG estimation on your Nav. screen is a summation or sum of = stop and go calculation based on your engine RPM. It is somewhat only showing true reading when you holding the right foot steady and at constant velocity/speed . Use the filled and divided method is more accurate. I say take a shotgun and blast that stupid $6500 display to hell. . Sometime I wish I can watch a little **** clip at the traffic light with the display. It's last almost three minutes in So. Cal during peak hour commute, Instead of watching the mpg starting to drop lower.

OP must be used to driving honda civics. I don't even know what the mileage is on those. Is it even anywhere near 400?

I have the nav, a scan gauge and I track my mileage on my iPod using the divide method. The nav is within 3% of the divide method on my car.

By the way, if your outside diameter of your wheel is not the same as stock even the divide method is incorrect. You would have to figure out your actual mileage to your odometer mileage % error and multiply your odometer reading by 1+error or 1-error and then divide by the gallons to get your actual MPG

420 miles is not crazy, i get that all the time. gs400 suck the crap out of gas when you race them. if you drive granny style you can get some hella mileage. On the highway if you set the cruise at 65 instead of 75 you mileage will go up even further.

When I bought my car, I had to pick it up from Socal... I had to drive it back home from West Covina to Milpitas. I hit traffic in LA and on the way up grapevine on HWY 5. Made it all the way home in 1 full tank of gas. By the time I got home I still had gas to spare, a little below a quarter tank left. The trip was about 380 miles total.

Oh, I bought a 2002 GS300 on 19's....
