Default The New M45 compared to the GS430 and 540IL

I've been browsing the board for the past 6 months and finally decided to register..........I wanted to know what do you guys think about the New Infiniti M45.........I'm looking into purchasing the GS430 or the M45.......

The New Infiniti Muscle Car which was designed to compete with the BMW 5 series and the GS430.............The M45 with an alloy DOHC 32-vavle 4.5 liter V-8 producing 340 horses at the rear wheels.......the same engine found in the more expensive Q45. The engine is smooth and powerful and it's has a muscle car-like thrust as on the Q45 - an attribute which has been carried over to the new M45...............

Here are some figures anyone correct me if otherwise.....The GS430 (300hp 4.3L 32 valve V8) starts at 47,825 and can run up to 54,005 and the........... 540IL (290hp 4.4L 32 valve V8) starts at 56,495 and up to 62,545..........the M45 is most powerful in it's class??....(340 4.L 32 valve V8 333 lb ft)Starts at 43,145 and up to 48,695...........I'll appreciate your opinions..............*One*

Not that it is everything but since you posted the terms, I think the GS 430 would still out run the 340hp M45. I think the level of quality is higher with Lexus, and I myself being a GS owner, I like the GS body style more then the M.

Is that your true opinion or a fact or are you being a lil bias because you own a GS.......no pun intended......

Welcome to ClubLexus. The M45 is used as a taxi cab in Japan. Though it is a 2003 model HERE, it has been out in Japan for 3 years. Styling is subjective, the inside is quality made as is the car. I think INFINITI marketing wants us to BELIEVE it is a muscle car but it is not. It is another average Infiniti product. The GS 430 has the CREDENTIALS to back up it's marketing claims.....

Road and Track got 0-60 runs in 6.7 then 6.3 seconds, what gives from a 340hp engine? Infiniti service is Lexus-like too, both are top notch. M45 though, since it is an Infiniti lacks Image, which for near 50k, many people want for that price. Which is why BMW and Benz 6 cylinders sell more than this car ever will.

There is no such thing as a 540il. There is a 740 and a 745il (il means long wheelbase). There is a 540i. The 540 stock is sportier than the GS handling wise, speed wise the GS auto is a lil faster. 540 quality is not as good as the GS. New 540 comes out next year. 540 still considered THE SPORT SEDAN!

IMO
GS 430>540>any Infiniti, in this case the M45

I appreciate the welcome 1SICKLEX.......you do have some vaild points from a buyers point of view.......I just can't decide.....on the flip side of the token........I'm no only content with horse power on a car ..... but I've seen some Sick Nismo kits for the M45....

1SICKLEX posted the specs I think it was his post before where I found those specs. I don't put Acura or INFINITI in the same class as Lexus, but that's me. When I am out shopping for a car, I think Benz, BMW, Lexus.

When I was shopping this time around, I looked at a 528-540, Audi 2.7T, E430 and the GS. I loved how the Audi drove but I didn't not get the same quality feeling as MB-BMW or Lexus. MB did not offer much to me, the 540 handled AWESOME and it was quick, but over and over for someone busy like me, I want no issues with my car so I chose the GS.

The GS is very quick, the inside is very plush, service is awesome, and I like how the GS drives, I like a more plush ride, I liked the 540 but it wasn't for me, the GS was much softer which I like since I spend 30,000+ miles a year in the car.

Hmmm, Nismo (drool). We actually posted some pics of Nismo kitted M45s in the lobby awhile back. I'll have to find em. The car IMO looks better in dark colors.

Sure I am biased some, but the GS 430 is THE supreme JAPANESE luxury sports sedan. And if u think Nismo is bad, you should check out the gallery. We have many enthusiests here with some AWESOME cars.

M45 is larger dimensionally speaking. The GS is 189in long, more aligned with the 540 (188) and E-class (189). M45 is 194 I think?

GS 430 o-60 in 5.8 1/4 mile (motor trend) 13.9
M45 0-60 in 6.3 1/4 mile in 14.5

Where you live, are both dealers close together? If so, may be you could test drive one and park it next to the other to compare. I think both are reliable but the Lexus may hold the edge over the resale value. The GS430 is a tried and trued machine, whereas the M45 is a brand new vehicle (electrical!!!), although the engine is the same one in the Q45 (you could check out the Infinity forum to see if the new Q45 has any engine problems).

You'll have to drive both vehicles to see what you like because after all, you're forking close to $50k for one or the other. Performance, looks, comfort, amenities, cost, value, etc. all of that will be a part of your decision.

Personally, I don't like the look of the M45 because it looks just like your run of the mill sedans with larger wheels and tires, really nothing distinguishes it one way or another. The GS on the other hand has a unique profile (front, sides, and rear), people either love the look or hate the look, it elicits emotions.

Good luck

For some strange reason the 45 reminds me of a maxima. Just cover the front lights and you see what I'm talking about.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the reason for the slow times is the ecu. Infiniti seems to tune their ecus for luxury, instead of sport. For example, my sis' I30t(2000) runs 0-60 in about 8 secs, while the 2000 Maxima GLE runs 0-60 in 6.7 secs with 5 less hp than the infiniti.

So a new ecu should help the 0-60 time to mid 5s(?)

Personally, I don't like the style of the M45. From the side its look like a Mazda 626 and from the front..I don't know what to say.
I think you can't go wrong with 540i or GS in styling and performance. The M45 may post more hp, but the hp is reduced at the rear wheels due to the transmission and differential designed. The Q with 345hp can't even beat the LS430 with 290hp from one of the test by the car mag.

Default GS430 vs. M45

I considered the M45 before is was released. I became aware of the cars production about a year ago and was looking forward to the "Lexus alternative". Well when I saw the car I came to the conclusion that the GS430 was better in every way.

I'm 34 and wanted to look 30 something for as long as I can. The M45 is a very nice car and has different things going for it, but I think it fits better with the 50 something crowd. I drove a Nissan Maxima for the last three years and was very pleased with the car.

I really thought I would by another Nissan or Infiniti but I kept coming back to the GS. I was hoping the extra 40 HP would get the car to 60 in 5.5 but its slower than the GS as is.

I think you'll be happy with the M45 but very happy with the GS430. Resale value will most likely go to the Lexus.

Good luck.
