GS400: Is my transmission going out??
Hey CL i need some insight on an issue i have been dealing with.
A couple weeks ago on a rainy day i drove to work perfectly fine with no issues.
I then later had to go handle some errands so i hop into the GS4 start her up and drive off, about 1/4mile later my tranmission slips out of gear and is no longer engaged after throttling.
I come to a complete stop and run thru all the gears, no signs of engagement. I turn off the car, remove the key and run thru gears again. Still nothing, after multiple cycles of this it finally gets into gear but only to slip again about another 1/4mile down.
After experiencing this issue i read some threads about how fluid levels can affect the performance of the tranny, i did a tranny drain n fill. It seemed to help but not for long. Problem resumed. Read another thread about battery being an issue, so i swapped the battery with my ladies IS3, still have the same problem. But i noticed on a cold start transmission will go thru gears perfectly fine, until its warmed up it will start slipping again.
Is it time to replace my transmission?

Damn I'm dealing with this right now man with my girls 2003 Hyundai sonata, auto,it's bucking when it catches in gear and other than not catching in gear it just revs when I'm in drive and in reverse, it's like I'm in neutral... Talked to the tranny shop today, they knew it was the tranny without even seeing the car, just from my story, long story short$1500-2000 they will rebuild it, for the Lexus, it might be the same, automatics cost more to rebuild, and u will get a 1 year warranty.. Sorry man but it sounds like the tranny, DO NOT DRIVE IT, until you can get it fixed or u will cause further damage thus making your overhaul more expensive, FIRST, check your tranny level, if it's full well, sorry man, trannys going then...

how many miles on the tranny?
how did the fluid look when u drained and filled it?
it might be time for a fluid flush via the flushing systems at the dealership. i think the whole tranny system takes a good 12L because of the fluid in the torque converter and rest of the tranny which a drain and fill wont be able to touch.
no fault codes? get it scanned anyways, might have some fault codes stored which u didnt see or cant see.
