Default My GS400

Hey, just bought this second owner GS400 (4.0/Automatic) from a private party in Minneapolis, MN. In VERY nice conditon, lots of documented service history as well. My only concern right now is the CEL. He say
's it was an o2 sensor, but my symptoms make it unclear. The only thing I've noticed is this: When the car is up to temp, and I am rolling to a stoplight, the RPM's drop to 300, or 400rpms as soon as I let off the throttle. There is no bog, or hesitation ever, extremely smooth acceleration, just the very low rpm drop. VSC is on, and the car is in economy mode with the shifter in the drive position. Thanks for any info!!! I attached a picture of the tach when I let off the gas and am decelerating.

Welcome. Get the code read and report back with it. Once we know the DTC we can offer some advice and you can search for previous threads on the same issue.

Thanks! I'll get it read tomorrow at work (Toyota Dealership), and post up the results. Owner said it was a sensor in the catalytic converter, so we'll see.

Worked on the idle issue today, and solved it by adjusting the extremely loose throttle cable assuming this would be the problem. It idles smoothly at 750rpms now, and drops to 500-550 when put into drive/reverse. I also disconnected the battery for giggles, and the CEL hasn't flashed on again yet. Maybe it was a loose gas cap some time ago?.....

I'm looking at buying wheels in the near future seeing that there is nothing mechanically wrong with the car (50 miles, still no CEL). I'd like a five spoke style, preferably 18", black, chrome, or a combination. Any suggestions? Bear in mind I'd like to keep the price realistic (I'm only 20... lol)

Anyways, the idle was still low after a couple days (throttle cable loosened in the bracket and slack was there...) I also cleaned the throttlebody, found lots of oil in the intake tube. Suspecting a junk PCV valve?

I cleaned the throttlebody with a micro fiber cloth, and carb/choke cleaner sprayed on the rag.

What's up - nice car you'll love it! 400's are the chit

I was gonna say my car does that super low idle when it's in drive or reverse with the A/C off...

Silly question but I guess worth asking --- ...was your A/C off when you were noticing this?

It is off when it has the low idle, yes. It's better with a/c on for sure.

Is there a better way to reset the ECU other than unhooking the battery? Last time I reset the ECU like that, the transmission engaged very hard for the first couple minutes. Or maybe this car has some complicated procedure you have to follow?.....
