Default HID Question

I have HIDs on my gs4 and one of them went out. I wanted to know if I could use my new HIDs with my oem ballast or do I have to get a new ballast? Thanks in advance.

which type of bulb did u buy?

d2r* (sorry 9006 is for halogen) bulb should work fine with oem ballast, no reason to get another

this should prob go in the lighting section btw.

Assuming you have OEM HID Headlights most likely just the bulb went out. Any D2R HID bulb should plug in and work fine with your OEM ballast.

If you plug in a new bulb and it still will not come on the ballast may have failed and will need to be replaced.

No, I thought OEM D2R plug between bulb and ballast is different than aftermarket HID for D2R bulb.

With aftermarket HID kits, I think you need these adapters- http://store.ijdmtoy.com/AMP-Convert...adapter_01.htm

Incorrect. A D2R bulb is a D2R bulb. That adapter lets you take a non-D2R aftermarket ballast and change it to D2R. The OP has a OEM Ballast which would use a D2R bulb regardless who makes the bulb.

As a side note I just replaced my factory HID bulbs with aftermarket bulbs because one bulb burnt out.

818GS - As others have noted, any D2R HID bulb will work. Also, if you want to retain the stock HID look you will want 4300k for the color temperature - all cars that come with factory installed HID headlights use 4100k-4300k bulbs.

5k and 6.5k exist?

its either 4.3k or 6k to my knowledge.

in person difference to picture difference is going to be different. its like listening to an exhaust over youtube before purchasing it.

to help you out, 4.3k is more OEM (white)

6k is blueish white (defintely notice the blue)

8k is totally blue

keep in mind my scale is give or take.

I have never seen/noticed 6.5K but I run 5K on my WRX and my GS. Slightly brighter looking then the 4.3K and no blue like 6K.

A 6000k bulb is rated at approximately 20% less lumens than a 4300k bulb. Lumens is what determines the actual light output of the bulb. A 6000k bulb may appear to be brighter than a 4300k bulb as the "bluish" tone creates more of a contrast however less light output is actually being emitted. A 5000k bulb will offer you a cool white output. It will be similar to 4300k however it will be more on the "cooler" side i.e. no yellow at all. I don't have any comparison pics showing both but here is a good pic showing the difference between OEM 4300k and XenonDepot 5000k:

6000k starts getting you into noticeable blue output.
