need help with a loose spoiler
I just got this 98' GS400. Previous owner was slamming the trunk closed because a tension bar was out of place. Trunk works great now, but the spoiler has a lot of play in it. Bolts from the underside were rusted out - had to drill out two of them. I thought the spoiler would be free once those four bolts were out, but something is still holding it on? I don't want to start wrenching on plastic parts, but can't see what's holding it on. All the double sided tape seems to already be pulled away, but I suppose there could be some left holding the trunk and spoiler together. Anyone have any experience removing the spoiler? For now, I put some new stainless M6 bolts and washers in to replace the rusted junk.

Thanks Jaystar - I thought so too, but I had the black liner off (trunk release needed lube) and there are no visible or accessible bolts from the underside.

i actually had this problem with my spoiler when i bought my car. there are only those 4 bolts that hold the spoiler to the bracket, then 4 rivets that hold the bracket to the trunk lid. if it's still loose, you could be having the same problem that i was having. the fiberglass around the bolt holes started to crack. originally i thought my only problem was the rivets that hold the bracket down were bad. but once i started to put everything back together, one of the nuts that mount the spoiler basically fell into the spoiler. after looking, i realized that the fiberglass was cracked & it finally gave way.
i ended up getting a trunk lid without a spoiler & having it painted. after reading through, others have just brought their trunk lid to a body shop & had the holes filled in & then repainted.

Got the spoiler off
There are also two plastic friction clamps on the spoiler. They insert into two square holes punched into the trunk lid. And yes, the black brackets are riveted to the trunk as well. One of the rivets was loose. Plastic clips look like they are designed to pop in and out without any special tool.
I drilled out the loose rivet and used a tap/die to get a SS bolt in there. Bunch of silicon and a clamp overnight - it's on there good now.
Cut some clear exterior double sided tape into 1/4" strips (rather the adhesive from the factory) and put everything back together. Nice and firm now.
Thanks for everyone's input.
