Default '02 2JZGTE VVT-I swap issues... some advice please...

Hey guys, I have an 04 GS300 and I just did an 02 2JZ-GTE VVT-i swap, all stock. The car runs great, but for some reason, when I hit the brakes too hard, the car cuts off, and at idle, the RPMs bounce up and down between 800 and 200 and the car cuts off. Also when starting the car after I put gas in, it wont crank normally. I have to keep stepping on the gas to get it to start, and as soon as I take my foot off the gas, it cuts off. I spoke to my mechanic about it, and he said its not a big deal, something about needing a stand alone, and the main issue being the fly-by-wire throttle body. I have no clue what the issue could be. Any ideas on what it could be or how to fix it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd would check the TPS. There are threads here about testing and setting proper TPS range.

@LexiBlue: yes plz. i need someone competent, cuz i have NO clue wtf im doing, lol .
@japspec: ill send it to u now.

I have a friend who kinda tinkers with an older model turbo jetta of his. he came by and unplugged my air flow meter. it naturally tripped the fault code, but oddly enough, the car instantly sounded better. maybe i have a bad meter?

Did you get the JDM maf with the swap? Or did you reuse the GS one?

Are you running the JDM Aristo ECU?

Can you post up any engine bay shots?

You do need to use the Aristo maf with the Aristo ECU. This will cause issues. They are not the same.

In the pic it looks like the maf is also in the stock 2.75 housing. You should be using the Aristo 3" housing, but if you find a sensor but can't find the matching oem housing/tube for it, just buy a 3" intake pipe off ebay and cut to use the sensor mount section to install the aristo maf .

JDM Aristo Maf part # 22204-46010 (this is the sensor but not the housing)

Yes the mafs are calibrated for the pipe size. You need to use a 3" housing for the aristo maf, either oem or an aftermarket intake pipe.

ok. before i did the swap i bought a swift racing high flow intake pipe with the chip for the ECU on the 2JZ-GE. Would the pipe itself work for the MAF until i upgrade to single turbo?

If your talking about the short section shown here for the maf, yes it would be fine as long as it is 3". Measure the diameter to verify first.

The only reason I would say not to is that the kit you have is useless otherwise in a GTE swap and the kit has a high resale value, You could still get $350 or more easily, I would sell the complete kit instead of bastardizing it and then just buy an ebay 3" intake pipe for cheap and use that. I'm running blow-thru and cut out the section from a pipe like I'm linking to and it fit the sensor perfectly, it is 3", the welds were good, and the car is running great.

ok great thanks. now i just gotta find someone to sell the SRT kit to. i just thought of something. This short pipe would eliminate the whole factory intake system, wouldn't it? what would i do about the cone filter on the front end? could i buy one and try to make it fit?
