Default Lexus service question....Please Help!

Hi All,

Here's the deal. I brought my 1998 GS400 in for the 60k service and while it was there I figured that I would get some minor problems taken care of.
The first problem was that the sunroof would have trouble closing. It acted almost like something was preventing the sunroof from closing all the way and the pinch protection was kicking in.
The second problem was some static coming from the front passanger speaker sometimes.

The service consultant quoted me $900 p&l to replace a bad sunroof motor and $500 p&l to replace 2 bad speakers.

First of all, that sound pretty expensive and secondly, WTF? I bought a Lexus for its QUALITY. 2 bad speakers and a bad sunroof motor @ 60k miles sounds more like GM quality to me. I'm kinda p*ssed. What would you do?

Jeff

Did you buy your GS used? IMO, Blame the former owner(s) first... And even if the former owners babied the car, stuff breaks on $50K cars much the same as the cheaper cars. I've had my share of problems but I also shelled out the extra for a CPO -- service has been very nice. On the other hand, the $1000+ for a 60K checkup chaps my A$$.

And, this would be a good time to upgrade your speakers. You can certainly do better than stock for $500.

I agree.....you can find way better speakers for half that price.

If the car is out of warranty, I would go to a private mechanic shop.

Just my 2 cents....

Jeff,

$500 can get you a really nice set of Boston Accustic to replace the front tweeters and midrange speakers.

As far as the sun roof motor goes, call Kevin (service manager) at BobBaker Lexus (619-588-0131) and tell him that I have referred you to him. Also mention to him that you are a ClubLexus member. He probably can get you a better price than what you were quoted for.

(make sure you ask for the service manager, their sales manager has the same name)

It maybe a little far for you, but heck if you can save some $$$, why not give them a try.
