Default My stretched tire failure

So yesterday i was running errands around town and ran into so many problems on this unfortunate morning. I had to drop someone off then rushing to pick my girlfriend and ran into a detour. So i had to go the long way around. Somewhere between there my tire exploded, or ripped up, not sure where because i didnt hear it, just felt the ride become bumpy to terrible. I go to the gas station to try pump air. While pumping air nothing happened and it begun to rain. I decided to take the short drive to drive to my girlfriends place. So of course i was gonna pull out the spare. Ran into some more problems, my car was too low to place the scissor jack under. I needed to jack it on a slight dip. Pumping my arms on the scissor jack in the rain. I removed the wheel, low and behold, popped tire. Anyway i ran my spare with aftermarket lug nuts, the nuts didnt hold well because its acorned. It was almost going to pop right off. I drove 4 miles home windows open to listen for problems while raining. Not the best day. Anyway heres a picture

It doesnt look like it was rubbed. What brand, size and wheel specs. Doesn't look like a crazy stretch either.

Old tire?

Saw the exact same thing happen to a friend back this past winter. Split apart just like yours did. He was running a slight stretch nothing crazy like some cars here, wasn't rubbing anything, didn't hit a pothole, it just separated and fell apart like this one. No visible abrasions on the sidewall and no problems at all on the opposite side tire. He said the steering got all crazy to hold still, but otherwise it didn't feel like a typical flat tire at first. I 'think' it was a nankang.

Doesn't seem like it was some crazy stretch from the pic, that's a 235/35 on what width rim? I'm running kuhmo spt's 235/35 on 9.5's up front on my car, and mine don't really look like much of a stretch at all..

Dunno, could be stress on the sidewall from a stretch, or could just be a defective tire to start with.

Oh man, it looks like a ninja just sliced your entire sidewall.

The only thing I can think of is your rubbing a lot.

Its 235/35 on a 10 wide. I got my alignment recently, about 3 weeks ago? I think its too little pressure. Its periodically leaks air.

Yeah, that's pretty stretched! I had something very similar happen a few years ago on a widebody STI I used to own. Sucks!!
