Default Replacing Blower Motor Control

So to get to the blower motor control I have to remove the glove box from our '98 GS300. Question: Do I need to disconnect the battery because of the air bag? Or is the air bag untouched in this procedure?

For the last couple weeks, the blower was stuck in the highest speed. The switch made the display go from low to high but the fan just blew full speed. Then yesterday the fan stopped altogether.
