pass dor lock cable issue

Default pass dor lock cable issue

I noticed that my pass front door lock was a bit lazy and not locking the door sometimes. I decided to pull it apart and found that on the inside of the door the cable that went to the lock unlock button facing the inside of the car had broken causing the cable to back out when locking the car and not really making contact.

Has this happened to anyone?

I didn't have time to snap a picture, but basically you have 2 cables going into the inner door handle. One goes to open the door and the other to the lock/unlock button. The one for opening the door has a plastic clip that slides in. The one for the unlock lock has a threaded end and the threads are broken. Now with no threads there is nothing for the cable sleeve to hold onto and the cable and sleeve moved back and forth.

I will take some pics of this tomorrow. I might just our JB weld on it and see if that holds.

I know exactly what your talking about, try gorilla glue first..

I have the same thing on the driver door. Jb doesn't really hold it'll just break off. There are people who used a paper clip and just wrapped it around so it stays. Car unlocks no problem I just gotta make sure I lock it manual before I get out.

Go to Home Depot and buy one of those blue bottles, it's like crazy glue but stronger. Works well.

I did not have time to correct this during the week because of a very busy work week. I did however spend 2 hours making a permanent fix. I made a bracket out of a scrap piece of aluminum from my RX7 intercooler build.

Here are the pics of what I did

now i am having issues. i cannot the front doors with the key nor the door with. I can manually lock them though. Is there something going bad or does it need a to be reconfigured.

Same problem I'm having as well. Since my front actuators are bad, I have to manually lock the driver side and then walk over to the passenger and lock it with the key fuuuh -_-

well i can lock it on the inside by moving the lock lever or the door. It works for the back doors. I am going to check all of the car fuses tomorrow and see what I find.

I know that Lexus doesn't sell this cable as a stand-alone part, they want you to replace the whole actuator. They do for the 2nd gen ES, but I don't know if that cable has the same ends. The cable would be really easy to replace. Has anyone had any luck with salvage yards? I tried ebay but found nothing.

DON'T use glue! Just use a piece of heat shrink tubing slip it on the broken area and then heat it up. No modifying needed.

Never thought of that. Anyways I still stand by what I said earlier. Paperclip and make it in the form of, O__O and put it where the part snapped off.
