Good evening,
My 99 GS300 currently has only the P0440 code going off. Replaced gas cap last year and shop simply told me to make sure it was tight enough. Worked for a short while but the code has returned during my recent trip.
On my recent trip cross country I was forced to buy 91 and 90 octane gas. Engine began to idle rough and seemed to have the occasional misfire. I normally put in 93 octane that is available here in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. Almost home the car lost power on the freeway and died. Car would not restart. After waiting an hour it was able to restart but died after 3 or so miles at highway speeds.
Going to pick it up in the morning to tow into my usual mechanic but was hoping someone might have suggestions.
Could it be the low octane or cheap fuel? Will an additive help for the 1/4 tank of the stuff left? While on the trip the alternator went out but was under warranty from autozone. Any correlation? Car was running fine with the P0440 code until the lower octane fuel was used.
Hope this is enough information to help someone make a suggestion.
Thanks in advance.

Try some HEET? I think that's what they call it at autozone. It removes water from gas. That lower octane gas probably had some moisture in it. It happend to my buddy's car, shop couldn't figure it out lol they did a full tune up which costed about $400. Then he came to me and I had a bottle left over for my old Chevy cause it just sits. But long story short? Next day it ran like a champ. Hope that's your problem. Worth a try for less than $4.

What I think is that....
most inline V6 lexus from older model those 2jz ingine....
one must cleans their throttle very well... it will keep idle good too... sometimes with this issue
will cause engine not constance or wont' start etc.....
you can buy a throttle clean, clean the air intake madifold....
It's happen to my sc300.. bring to dealer the say it's a idle control to be replace...
cost... 500 hic hic I have a friend at a mechanic shop he told my to clean it and it works!

So far the HEET seems to have done the trick. Added about 6 gallons to a already 1/4 full tank of the low octane gas, added the HEET, tried it 1.5 hours later and it starts and runs like a champ. CEL persists so having local shop check it out.
Thanks again for the help, will follow up if any other issues found and their resolution.
