Strange clicking/popping noise when in reverse and air conditioning is on
Hello, all.
This is my first post on this forum and I'm very glad to have found this site.
Three weeks ago I bought a 2002 GS300 with only 58,000 miles. Today was a very hot day (100 degrees). When I turned on the air conditioning and put the car in reverse, I immediately heard a clicking/popping noise. I then turned off the AC and continued in reverse and the noise went away. When in "drive" the AC works fine and the transmission shifts smoothly as well. This has me stumped.
Any ideas what this noise is?

Does it sounded like air purging
I can't remember the word/terminology the mechanic told me. It is very common for our body style (2nd Generation GS) It sound like a solenoid valve or the fuel system purging coming from just right in front of the instrument display. I think the IS series have that similar noise at well. I am sure you can ask a lexus/toyota mechanic explain it to you. If he/she charge you money for it, You won't want to do business with him/her any further. BTW nice car.
Just for your reference if the above explanation is not the case, then check out this post.
