Sold The GS
Well, after almost 7 years of owning her, i sold my 2002 GS430. She had 117,500 miles on her. Black on tan leather, wood grain steering and mark levinson. Car needed the rear bumper fixed from backing up in the garage. Also the front driver side bumper was hit and blemished which needed to be fixed and the headlights were pretty fogged. Also needed new brakes and rotors all the way around, new tires, Timing belt and water pump needed replacement and it had a rear differential leak.
Guy paid $8,000 for my car. Maybe i'll return to Lexus in the future, but right now i'm still having much fun driving a 2007 Audi A8 i've had since last November.

Comparing the GS to the A8 is pretty unfair considering that the A8 was close to $20,000 more than the GS brand new. But i've driven the LS430 as well. The A8 drives better than the GS and the LS. There is a difference in the way Germans build cars and the Japanese. Audi engineers cars and it obvious by the looks, feel and experience of driving one. The A8 drives much smaller than it's size, and i have the extended wheelbase A8L. The car is not "fast", yet powerful at 350hp and can move when it needs too. I love that German grunt of the V8, one thing i missed in the GS. The GS never handled good for me and was too soft. With the A8, it's a nice balance of tight steering and maneuverability. The air suspension can also lower the car to Dynamic setting for a sportier drive.
Reliability? Don't know yet since i bought it certified in November. I've had a couple minor things replaced under warranty like a power close trunk motor and upper control arms but the car has not left me stranded yet and have not experienced any electrical glitches. But do not own one out of warranty. But i'd give that advice to any car even Lexus if your not a DIY'er.

The executive manager at my job owns the same model & it's been to the shop a million times! Plus we never see European cars with over 100k miles on them. GL to you when the Audi starts to act up $$$$$$$

There's plenty of Audi A8's with over 100,000 miles on them with little maintenance. Many pleasing highway miles for a big luxo cruiser. I know, i've seen them on audiworld forums.Same goes for BMW's and Mercedes. It's all in how they are maintained.
On the flip side, my GS was constantly nagging me with issues. I also know of LS's that were headaches. Gone are the days of Lexus being "problem free luxury Toyotas."
Plus, there's nothing like piloting an "Audi". The experience of driving one far outweighs the issues you MIGHT encounter, the same issues that can arise on any make of car.

Thanks. I always wanted a step up in size to a sedan larger than the GS. Always like how big cars drive. I wasn't gonna get the LS because it was too boring to drive. Also, my sister, mom in law and aunt has one so i am very familiar with them. BMW 7 series is too common. Mercedes S550 is too showy "in your face" for me. The A8 was the one that offers a mix of all of the above cars: The smoothness of the LS, the handling of bimmer and the ride of a Benz. Plus you don't see one on every corner. Most people don't even know what it is when they see it. I like being stealth.
