Default Lost transponder for key

I need help!!! I lost my transponder from my only master key. I have a 2001 GS300 what can I do? The Lexus dealer wants about 800 dollars. Can I buy a key from ebay and have a locksmith flash my computer to reset a new key?

Dude, you meant $80.00 okay? Not $800.00. Got it?

I just had this issue with a 98 gs300 I bought with only the valet key. MOST dealers not all will charge you for 2 new keys and labor and will replace the ECU for the alarm system since they say they can't reprogram the transponders if you don't have the originally programming.

The option I went with is buying a brand new master key with the transponder from the Sewell Lexus parts site online for 150. Then I asked them what they would do and he said they just re-flash the ecu but most of the charge is labor for pulling and then re-installing it. So I found a locksmith with the capability to do so, pulled my ecu and took it to him. He re-flashed it, cut the key I had bought, and programmed it to the ECU for 150. Had he had to pull the ECU himself he said it would have been 350.

That's the route I would go unless you want 2 new master keys then your getting closer to the range of what the dealer charges and the cost difference is less substantial.

Or deal with these guys that will probably have more down time

If you can find a key with a transponder synced to the ecu like the one I bought

And after swapping mine; the one I sold
