Default Foggy headlight lenses

I know there was a thread discussing this earlier, but those people had theirs replaced under warranty. While at my dealership this morning for an oil change, I had them look at the lenses and they quoted me a price of $895 to replace both housings: $390 a piece plus labor. At that price, I might as well just get an HID set (I have halogen now). Does anyone know if I can get these parts cheaper anywhere? Maybe Steve at Carson Toyota? The service tech seemed to think the residue would buff out, which leads me to believe he thought it was on the outside of the lens. It didn't buff out, so he suggested replacing them. Also, during the monsoon season here in Tucson, there are visible water drops inside the lens...over 15 in each side. This to me seems like the lenses are not sealed at all. Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations. What do full HID housings and bulbs cost these days? The residue is very noticeable and I'm sure causes a definite loss of illumination, plus it looks like crap, and I don't like it.

If you're under 50K miles, you should be able to have it replaced under warranty because of the water inside it.

If you're like many of us over 50K.......welp, time to dish out some loot!!!

Yep, over 50k...bought with over 50k as a CPO. I could look at it this way...spend $1k now for the headlights or I could have paid $15k more for a new one when I got it. I'll take the $1k now...

Any idea where I could get those assemblies for a good price?

Check out the group buy section, I have a thread about a groupbuy on 01+ GS lenses !! Nobody really seems to want to get in on that even though its only a fraction of what the dealers want

HID's are $1,110 per side. I believe there is a group buy for new lenses. The lense includes the entire plastic housing with new lense. Check out the GB section.

Default Try the CHEEP way out first!

his_eminence – If I were you, I’d try to buff the lenses first. Mine were dull and cloudy when I bought my GS – I’ve since buffed the lenses and they’re (almost) as good as new. There’ve been many posts here discussing the subject – do a search and you’ll find more than you ever wanted to know about clearing GS lenses.

I tried Kit Scratch-Out first – manually – rubbed the hell out of part of one lens and satisfied myself that it would be worth the effort. I then tried Zaino Plastic Magic and Blue Magic Plastic and Plexiglass cleaner. For me, the Blue Magic worked best. Since it looked like it would be worthwhile, I bought a Porter Cable polisher and proceeded to clean and polish all of the lenses – even my old taillights, before I bought the ‘01s. This doesn’t address the moisture inside – if that’s bad, new lights may be the solution (or at least try sealing the old ones first).

My .02 worth –it’s worth $3-4 and half-hours hard work to see if it works.

You may spend more than a $1k on headlights. They have already replaced my left side headlight 3 times. They were also nice enough to replace my right side to match.

All in all I say I have received well over $2k in lights....and I still have 14,000 miles (or 1 year) left on my warranty. I can't wait till the next rainfall in L.A. . I think so far they have replaced a new headlight everytime I go in for an oil change.

I know when my warranty runs out I will be cracking that headlight open if it condenses up. Then upgrade to HID's after doing a thourough reseal.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll probably take care of it after the first of the year...in the middle of buying a house right now and I'm being extremely cautious with the cash. Thanks again.
