Default exhaust

ok so I'm confused I've read that an entire exhaust system helps you get better gas mileage and ive heard it consumes more gas I been undecided about getting one but I really want to please help me out

Releasing back pressure may help with gas, but if you have a heavy foot... Kinda defeats the purpose, most people dont understand that and are probably the ones who are complaining. Its only natural to get a heavier foot when you hear your exhaust. If there are any power gains, even MORE reason for heavy foot.

i was told this when i was 16 and many moons later it still rings soooooooooooooo true
