Brake Master Cylinder Boot Very Bad Day
I purchased a brake master cylinder from a member on here and I don't want to name any names. He decided to protect it by using a trash bag and spraying it with a hardening foam spray from home depot.
So after trying to rip through it with my man hands it was no success. So I get a steak knife and slowly start to cut. When I finally get it out I notice a slit in the brake booster boot.
I found the boot I need, it's part 47265 on the top right corner.
Question is has anybody ever changed it and how can one do so?

BMC with Booster
Yes, I changed on my like almost a yr ago. If you are handy around the house whole, it should be find.
1. disconnect the battery terminal
2. remove the brake fluid from the reservoir if you can
3. unplug the wire brake connectors
4. remove four brake lines
5. remove the brake paddle spring and clips
6. remove 4 bolts behind the brake paddle.
You only need to follow the first page on the instruction, and put it back in reverse order. You need two people when putting it back, cus one need to make sure that it will goes into the mounting hole nicely and help you to align those 4 holes inside the car.
It took me 1 hr, but could be vary from person to person.
Good luck.

Yikes!!! I have to do the BMC here soon as well. Hope I don't get it packed up like that!!!
Also, thanks IVNNLN for the diagram. I didn't think it would be too hard to replace. My only worry is bleeding the brake lines.

bigwasum, sorry you had the mishap. I'm pretty certain you purchased that master cylinder from me? I always try to ship any part I send out as safe as possible. That last thing I want to do is ship a perfectly good and very expensive part only for it not to arrive safely. Anyone who has ever handled the brake master cylinder knows how heavy they are. In addition to being heavy, the edges are very sharp, and in addition to that, the abs electronics and sensors are mounted on one side. All it takes is for the ups/fedex guy to be having a bad day and drop the box the wrong way and there goes a perfectly good part down the drain. Ive never had a problem using the foam before, it takes up all the dead space in the box and has some give so it absorbs impact... The booster makes short work of packing peanuts, bubble wrap, newspaper, etc. its just too heavy and sharp, not to mention the rod that connects to the brake pedal which you dont want to bend...
Let me know how much the boot costs and i will send you the funds via paypal, or if you havent ordered it yet, i will order it for you and ship it out.

That's good customer service and you guys were ready to throw him under the bus. For Shame. He has given a good explanation for his reasoning. In the end he was just trying to make sure the customer got the item he paid for in good condition. Why would you not buy from someone that overpacks to protect the product you bought. That defies logic. I'd buy from him.
I think hes taking responsibility, which is great, but dumb move on packaging an item thats usually expensive to replace. Yes, Over Packing can damage a item as well.

Because he went Full Retard on the packaging... I have sold 3 MC units..all properly packed, no sharp edges, no electronics in the way. No Need to Insulate for an R-14 rating..

i've been on the fence about posting my thoughts/response to this thread for a minute.... if as the OP said he put it in a bag and then foamed it, its not really a bad pack. its really safe and should be very easy to free from the insulation just bend/break the foam. we used to ship like this for a company, its not the preferable packing but it is ok.
and yes....its nice to see him take responsibility for helping out although i would think OP is a little at fault for cutting the boot in the first place. im telling you its very simple to break that insulation, just bend/break the insulation till you get it out. Chin is a good vendor, i bought a lot from him including my black interior swap and when i got home and realized i was missing something......he took care of that also for me
