Question OEM HID Ballast Substitute

Really could use a some knowledgeable help here. I'm confused now. Been perusing all the links and threads trying to determine what I can do to replace the stock OEM ballast that is apparently out on my wife's car.

Been through several bulbs, and no go there. The original bulb of 13 plus years I replaced was shattered inside the housing. The new one worked briefly then went out. The original ballast part #385967-30030, has been replaced with 85967-30031, which runs an easy $6-700. Looking for a less expensive aftermarket ballast that will replace the OEM ballast.

Is there a replacement ballast out there? Link, referral and/or part # would be great. The DIY's I keep finding are about retrofitting from halogen, but these are stock HID.s Hopefully I can use the existing wire harness to plug & play without soldering, etc.

Thanks
Chuck

Did find a couple used with matching part # on Ebay and grabbed one. Was checking here to see if there was a suitable new aftermarket replacement since they are made by Denso.

Thanks

i will check those later. for now, i got another OEM ballast from Ebay. hooked it up and HID still not working.

First ballast went out and that is expected giving it's probably the original on the car. 2nd ballast lasted only 2 weeks. Now third ballast won't even turn on.

Is it really just bad ballasts or some other problems? Bulb is working fine.

Dumb question here. Where are the OEM ballasts located?
I absolutely despise the OEM headlights and would love to change to an aftermarket system, and am sure will need to know where the stock ballasts are for this car before changing. Ive looked around but i guess not deep enough to find them.

May as well ask while here. Not to get into brands and all that, but has anyone upgraded to an aftermarket system for HID and had any regrets about doing it? Don't see how Lexus can even call these stock lights HID since they totally suck and are nothing like the system I just installed on my Dodge truck! I want MORE LIGHT!!

^^^The Ballast is under the headlight. You would have to remove the headlight to get to it..

So since it was 60 degrees on Saturday 3/22/14 I decided to change out my used HID ballast to another used HID ballast that I received from a member. After finishing the switch of the ballast I was happy to see my right light being on for more than 10min but then it was back to hell. After putting my tools away the light went out again.smdh. turn off the headlight turn back on the headlight light then will stay on for a few minutes then light will cut off again. Maybe there's a short some where?? it seems like as soon as the ballast warms up it cuts off... I'm going to have to remove the headlight again to see what else could this be. DAM!!!!!!!

It's a reflector HID, like R34 skyline or other early HID equipped cars. The housing is designed not to glare all over people obnoxiously, which normal halogen housings WILL if you put HID kits in them. But yes i agree the stock HID's are quite bad compared to modern projector setups.

Your bulbs could be old, the brightest D2r HID bulbs you can buy right now seem to be the Osram Xenarc CBIs (from what i have read). Otherwise you will have to look into a retrofit.
