Default 1999 Lexus GS300: Confused with Exhaust Part number

Hi,
I am trying to replace the whole assembly of mid exhaust pipe with Catalytic Converter (DIRECTFIT type of Catalytic Converter).

Eastern Catalytic makes them. Part # 40386 and 40590.

According to eastern website, Part # 40836 fits GS300 models up to year 1999. And Part # 40590 fits GS300 models from year 2000.

http://showmetheparts.com/easterncatalytic/

But, several direct online websites including the majority of ebay resellers are selling that Eastern Part # 40590 is the one which fits 1999 model car.

I don't want to end up buying a wrong part # and as its size/shape is very difficult to return.

Do you have any idea which part is the right fit for my car?

As I don't know anything about cars, anyone who has experience or knowledge which is right?

Thank you so much for your help!!

98-00 the midpipe had a muffler, 01-05 it had a cat in that spot.

Either one fits either year span of cars no problem. There is no difference is size, shape, or flanges/bolt pattern.

The cat in the midpipe is not monitored by the 4th o2 sensor as it's located before it. So it is no problem to run without it at all. The two primary cats are on the header.

What is the reason your replacing it? Is the pipe rusted through or something?

OMG, I just looked this up it and it's a pretty ****ty piece of work right there. No offense but I wouldn't by that crush-bent cobbled together pipe for $300..

Here's the oem vs the megan. Notice this oem pic came off my 99 and it is a muffler not a cat.

Yes, the car has rusted whole exhaust system. Main Body, Mechanical and transmission are still excellent shape.

OEM parts are too expensive for me to replace. I am trying to replace both Main exhaust pipe and this Mid pipe catalytic assembly.

Wow, I didn't know these 2 are the same. And Megan also looks much more durable.

It looks like Megan is cheaper and better than Eastern when I looked up the prices on line.
Should I replace with Megan? Is it legal to install and use in Texas?

Thank you.
