I think in the long run, the gs300 will probably be slightly cheaper to maintain & easier to work on, but both are super reliable. Timing belt service will be more on the v8, tune ups slightly more, and when your starter fails, but both engines are rock sold. I have personally driven sc400's, ls400's with 300k miles and the engine is just as strong, just as quiet as an engine with under 100k. The only thing you have to keep an eye out for when you start getting close to 200k on these engines are fluid leaks, but that is expected with that mileage on basically any car. Seals start to break down...

Even though I just purchased my 1st Japanese sedan, after the homework I did 100k is nothing. LOADS of 200+ cars on the road and most owners just follow the maintence schedule. I went with the 2JZ just due to the deal I got on the car. It has 155k and it feels like 55k.

I have 215K on a 98 GS400, and it is still running strong.

Just bought my 98 GS400 with 196K miles, did the valve cover gaskets and power steering pressure hose, car runs like a champ. THE GS300's are good too, but the V8 feels better imo. Good luck with what you decide to go with.

Get an LS if you want a better built car but the GS is more fun. Just a lot of rattles, I think they consulted Gm . My 1992 LS400 is as quiet as a mouse

Ha yeah but when you have 309k on your car, you really don't mind those little things.
