04 GS - Any ideas?
#4
That's what I've been reading here on the forums. I don't know how much horse is really needed. I don't know.. Honestly? I'm mostly curious about how the car is going to look inside and out. I know I like the exterior. I love the interior to death.. I don't care if it's any faster. I have a Vette and if I decide to make it an 11 second monster, I will. I just want a great luxury car. If it looks anything like that Photochop we've been seeing, I'll take the new STS V Series Cadillac instead...

You're basically going to have to wait a year and a half to get the next generation GS and I'm sure demand will be high so you might have to pay a premium.

Certain car makers allow their dealers to surcharge customers for high demand cars and others don't. I know that Porsche would NOT allow the dealers to surcharge buyers when the Boxter came out but I believe BMW and Mercedes allow their dealers to do it for vehicles that are hard to get. I also remember Mazda dealers surcharging when the 1st generation Mazda Miata when it came out.
Does anybody know if Lexus dealers are allowed to do this? I wonder if they did it when the SC430 came out. I remember seeing an auction on eBay for somebody's place on a dealer waiting list for the SC430. The guy clearly stated that the auction was for the waiting list spot, not the car. The bidding was up to over $10K just to be number 2 on the waiting list at a dealership.

Yes, demand USUALLY increases dramatically when a new bodystyle comes out. I remember there being a lot of controversy over the looks of the current generation GS when it was new--stuff like that tends to dampen enthusiasm. The SC430 has basically been sitting on dealer lots since inception (at least around here); price gouging was not an option!
Also, don't confuse sales increases with demand increases. It could just be that Lexus didn't produce many 2001 ES's, trying to build up demand for the 2002. At some price, EVERY car produced is going to be sold.

lexus does not put markups on cars.
max price you'll pay is MSRP.
if you ever did pay a premium to get a lexus, you just gave the salesman xtra money.
