I'm not totally done yet though. I haven't sealed the lights yet and I need to clean the glass off

Cool

You will need night vision goggles, because your lights are going to be much dimmer after you do this.

what the heck are you talkin about?? he didn't even paint the actual reflector part. all he painted was the trim. so it won't effect the light output at all. it will decrease glare and INCREASE your cutoff line though. thats a good thing

btw, that looks really really good. i'm planning to do the same for my car. is that flat black?? or is it chromy. kinda hard to tell from the picture. also what was yuor procedure on painting it. did you sand off all the old stuff first, did you use primer?? thanks

Thanks for the compliments Jmai.

Yeah, I only painted the trim parts. I studied the beam pattern from my HIDs and the flat bottom part actually caused a little more glare, so painting it black will help w/ the cutoff pattern and glare as you said.

The paint I used was Rustoleum Satin Black so it's like a semi-gloss.

I just primered the chrome, and then sprayed the paint on. I'm not sure how it's going to hold up though. I'm a little worried the heat might make it crack or something.

My favorite place, Home Depot
They also have normal Rustoleum semi-gloss black, but the Home Depot I went to that time didn't have it, so I got the satin black and a metallic black. The metallic black had a silver flake in it though so I went w/ satin black.

I agree, the paint from home depot...black satin works perfect.
Also, what works best IMO is putting them in the preheated oven, and 'baking them open' at 250 for 5-10 minutes, tops.

I took the plunge on that last year...the effect is sinister imo...I like it.

Also, you don't have to sand/primer it, just two good coats will do.

thank you..my experience with it required no sanding or priming. If you use light even strokes, it should come out just fine
