Default 98 Lexus GS400 Radio LCD display replacement??

I have a GS400 with the Nakamichi stereo system in it. The lcd display appears to have gone out and I would like to know if anyone knows how to fix it or if it is possible to replace it. Or what is the problem and how can I solve it? At the moment, I basically can not see anything on the display. This definitely makes it very difficult (impossible) to see the radio station or any other details. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum, try the search feature before posting a new thread. You'll find its a very common problem with these units.

The only replacement screen I've been able to find is for the Pioneer headunit, which leads me to believe Nakamichi parts are completely discontinued. Your best bet would be to buy a used headunit from the classifieds, which should realistically only cost $50-100.

How do I view the classifieds? I have tried to search for them, with no success.

Is the pic above your actual HU? that looks like the Pioneer HU. You can replace it as mentoned above or get it fixed at an electronic shop. I had a Local shop fix mine $100. Or you can pull it out and upgrade with an aftermarket double DIN DVD/NAV unit.

That is a Nakamichi. The Pioneer has two large ***** on each side.

The pic above is the actual HU. It definitely says Nakamichi on the unit. I'll have to look at it again later but I don't think it is a Pioneer. I don't think I am ready for an aftermarket DVD/NAV unit. I don't think it would be worth the extra expense for the little I would use it.

Try sticking your fingers in the tape drive and lightly pulling out on the faceplate, it used to help on mine (because the faceplate over time starts pressing down on the lcd and distorts it)

Tried it after you suggested it, but it looks like the LCD is just bad. Doesn't surprise me since it's a black car that spent it's life in the 120 degree Palm Springs area. lol

I replaced mine with a new LCD from Pioneer a few years back. Very easy to replace after the radio has been removed from the car. In order to get the correct piece from Pioneer, they required the model # on the sticker on the back side of the radio. Not sure how Nakamichi works, but i would assume it should be the same. Good luck!!
