Default GS400 Vibration @ A Certain Speed

Hello Guys,

I know we have talked about our GS having issue with steering wheel shaking at a certain high speed. Just a quick update as I brought my car into the dealer and they told me that they start to replace the SEAT RACK GUIDE part# 4427722020 which sit behind the screw where we tighten up the rack at 1/8 turn clockwise. They also mention that on my 17in wheels, those wheels are prone to bend than the 16in due to soft aluminum. If that the case, replace the seat rack guide won't help either. Also, the seat rack guide is a update to any GS owners with an old round ball inside hexagon nut when you take it out, you will be able to see it as the lexus tech told me. I will update whether I need to replace that rubber piece or I have a bend rims. As you can see the rubber piece circle with yellow.

I wonder if that is the update they mention in this article? Page 78

You have steering wheel shimmy and they went after the 'seat track guide?' Really?

I've yet to hear it being a steering rack problem, but if you're gonna replace those bushings you can get them off the Sewell Parts website cheap.

I wonder what their reasoning was for going after this particular part in the rack system?

95% of the time, shimmy will be caused by tire/wheel imbalance, tie rod ends, or front suspension bushings (caster arms, control arms, etc).

Rarely will it be something obscure like an internal rack problem.

The shake can have lots of different causes. I believe that the usual suspects BayAreaLex or that big uber trouble-shooting list that someone made up are more likely, but keep an open mind.

Let us know if this solves it...for you (but keep in mind that this doesn't mean it's the cause for everyone else's shake).

Yes many things can be the root cause but the rack can accentuate it even if it is not the cause.
