I have an 00' gs400. It runs perfect for 6 out of 7 days of the week. But during the one "bad day" the car will start up just fine, sit at idle for about a second or two, then the revs go down to 0rpm, and the car dies.

When you attempt to start it after that, the starter goes for about 10 seconds until the car turns over again, sometimes the car will run fine after that, and sometimes it will die again, and again.

Anybody know what the HECK could be going on here. It just seems so weird to me!

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Could be MAF, but before you do anything like replacing a car part, do you have a CEL? If you do indeed have a CEL pull the code...could also be, from the top of my head: bad fuel, dirty injectors, loose battery terminals, fuel pump going out...??? CEL?

sorry to bring back this old thread but I thought I'd let everybody know how I fixed the issue, just incase anyone else comes across a similar problem.

First I changed the spark plugs, to NGK iridiums. That helped a little, but didn't completely fix the issue, what I did next, was because I had an apexi neo for my intake and exhaust, I went onto the air map settings, and I increased the fuel, at around 800 rpms, and this completely got rid of the problem, the car starts and runs great now, and I havn't had an issue since I did this, hopefully this helps.
