Exclamation [Advise] 98 GS400 Rear Diff leaking/ clicking noise when using Hot/Cold Air

Hey guys wondering if you all have common problems that I am having with the rear differntial leaking and when you turn your A/C or heat on there is a clicking noise mostly happening when the car is idling.

Do you guys have any of these common problems or solutions to these problems?

Thanks!

I smelled burning electronics, and now I too hear the clicking noise. Everything seems to be functioning correctly, but would like to know what that noise is, and how to fix it.

Differential is just a pumpkin shaped container with a couple of plugs. Find leak fix it. If it's with the plugs, someone likely messed up the plugs. Fix them. If the leak is somewhere else in the pumpkin you can take it apart and then reseal it.

Ahh. Thanks for the advice, I'll check it out when I jack it up in a day or two. Hopefully its a simple fix just requiring a plug replacement, what is the recommendation mileage of having your rear differential fluid replaced?

Also, any word on the A.C. problem?

Sorry, I have no idea about your ac problem.

The diff fluid, again it'll depend what the problem is, and you'll have to come up with a solution. Maybe the bolt is just loose. Or maybe the threads are stripped. Each problem has a different solution.

As far as fluid replacement, I believe the manual says if you do towing or severe service(frequent hill climbing) you have to change this more frequently like 15k miles. If you don't do towing or severe service perhaps 60k is the recommended interval. I don't have it in front of me, but those seem reasonable.
If you have never changed it, if you use a really good modern high quality synthetic (e.g. amsoil, redline, etc) it will outperform those intervals, and I'd be confident using amsoil in regular driving for 90k miles myself.
