If the dealer takes care of the issues, it seems like its priced pretty well, cheaper then what it would be going for where I am anyways. Color combo isn't my first choice, but still nice none the less. How many owners has it had? If this is a 1 owner car, and the guy had money to buy an almost fully spec gs400, he had the money to maintain it as well. A lot of guys here complain about how some people overpay for cars, but the people who "overpaid" end up spending less because they have to replace less things on the car. Only advice is don't settle, there are a good amount around, while I am starting to really like the silver, i sometimes wish i waited for black. Since the car was a sport design and low mileage though, i figured i wouldn't be able to find anything better.

I'd personally go with sakataj's car or even another member on club lexus, which i did a few months ago,Most people on here take exceptionally good care of there car's and more than likely all necessary maintenance are up to date.As far as pricing goes i'm sure it'll be worth it to drive a worry free car for many years.Good luck on your decision.

Hm thanks. I'll certainly keep checking here for members selling gs's.
Right now I'm looking at a silver/black '98 with 127k for $7600 but the dealer and mechanic i hired don't know if the timing belt was done. It seems like the timing belt would be $600-700 if I had to pay for it.

I decided to pull the trigger on this one for $7600. The mechanic said it was good except he couldn't tell if the timing belt was done (no sticker) and he said it could use new front shocks and mounts for which he quoted me $700. The lower ball joints were good.
After getting it caught up on maintenance and putting on winter tires since I'm in Washington I feel like it might be a little pricey but I liked the interior/exterior colors and how it was driven in socal only and owned by 1 couple only.
Did I do alright? I imagine I could still back out since I haven't signed anything.

the main question is are you happy with it. If you pulled the trigger, there's little to gain from secondguessing yourself now. If you're in this for at least a few years, a difference of a thousand here or there is going to fade away soon enough.
As far as front shocks, you can take the opportunity to upgrade rather then just stay with stock. It also makes sense to get a lot of your suspension work taken care of at once, since you should do an alignment after any suspension work.
Take a read over in some of the suspension area.
For example, you can go with bilstein front AND rear which is an improvement. On Tirerack.com, for example, bilstein HD this will cost you $600 for both front/rear parts, a mechanic should charge you in the range of $300 for an install with alignment. So this is more out of pocket, but you will get value for it, as compared to spending $700 just to repair fronts.

OP:
I bought my 2000 GS400 for $10k. It had 120k on the clock and I essentially had to replace everything that's common on this car (i'm a bit ****). Still have a few things that need to be attended too, but the car rides as if I spent the $40k tag on it. I see you have your radar set on the 400 and not the 300. Good move. You won't regret it.
