Do a drain and fill every 30k miles or so. It will use between 3-4 Qts. Use Toyota T-IV Fluid. No need for any of those additives. Just for piece of mind, I drain and fill mine every year to keep things as fresh as possible. ***Also, no matter how much anybody tries to sell you a "flush" for your tranny, don't do it. Only bad things can happen. Also make sure the level is absolutely perfect after you fill it back up. Our trannys are very sensitive to fluid level.

yeah it only takes about 2 qt's. I did mine a couple weeks ago.

I've never heard of it being 3-4 qt's...

It uses 1.9 qts. It's not sensitive to fluid level. It's the matter to check level when the transmission is warm.

Care to explain how "only bad things can happen" ?

Bad things won't happen unless your transmission has never had its transmission fluid changed and you have 150k miles. That is if you do a flush where they use chemicals to clean the sludge and varnish out. I do the "poor mans flush" as soon as I buy a used car and I have never had an issue. When you use the chemicals that are added there is a possibility that you release so much dirt that it pluggs the filters of the solenoids in the electronic transmission or even plug up oil passages. If this happens then malfunction will occur. So the theory goes.
