Default GS400 1-2 shift point

My car has always seemed to me to conduct its 1-2 shift annoyingly early. Is there anyway this can be modified to hold off on the shift longer? Thanks

Do you mean at full throttle? Or normal take off?

For normal take off push the ect switch

Normal stop and go driving. So you know what I'm talking about? That switch helps this? I never noticed any difference with that switch pushed or not pushed.

I believe everyones 1-2 gear change is the same even if its in manual. its a safety reason Lexus has it like that, and I don't think there is anything that would help, unless if you switch to power mode. even then you will only see higher rpms when you floor the gas.
at least its not like my parents Acura Tl, Acura shifts automatically 1-2 and if you take too long it will kick 3rd by itself.

Yes, the ect does nothing other than shift up the part throttle shift points. What rpm is your car shifting from 1 to 2 at light throttle? What rpm do you want it to shift at?

Well I checked on my car to be sure and at light throttle the ect does not change the shift points. I guess you are going to have to live with it. My 1-2 shift point is around 1200 RPM with light throttle

Well Sam, unfortunately the car is in storage for Winter. What I noticed in the past just driving normally on city streets for instance like taking off from a stop sign and accelerating at a normal rate to 30 MPH it just shifts really early like about 1,800-2,000. Even if at the last second before the shift you step into it further it will not hold off the shift longer and allow the tach to climb a bit more, it just shifts. I have a Pontiac Bonneville and I love the way that tranny shifts. I control it with my foot. It is more demand based. The Lexus does gas mileage shifts. Very annoying. The only way to keep it from doing an early shift is to floor it very quickly off the line then it will delay the shift. HELP!!!

You could always get an IS300 steering wheel and get Supra Stick so you can manually shift on demand. But yes when under light acceleration our cars like to get into 5th as early as possible which sucks.

A ok, the ect button should help "hold the gear" you can also do the tranny change but you have to drop your pan for that. Since I have not done the tranny change yet not sure exactly how it would react but I think it will shift more like you want.

Let me find the link for you
